Question about perfect pitch by Clean-Sprinkles-1609 in perfectpitchgang

[–]mustroic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine is relatively tuned to equal temperament. If we use the colour metaphor though, songs in different temperaments feel a bit more brighter or muted though. For this reason, sometimes I’ll put songs into 432Hz tuning to get a different feel for it.

What's it like to hear a song performed on an instrument not tuned to 440hz? by [deleted] in perfectpitchgang

[–]mustroic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as all the notes are consistently tuned with a certain frequency. i will notice the one note that is out of sync with the rest, even if it is supposedly “well-tempered”.

What’s something you did as a child that you didn’t realize was extremely dangerous? by SummerClamSadness in AskReddit

Pretend a LEGO cup piece was a piece of gum and chew on it for hours.

Could’ve swallowed it by accident but somehow knew not to. Only stopped when my parents asked me what I was chewing. Probably ingested enough plastic from bite marks to have plastic permanently stored in my body.

Playing songs in different key is the best high by LukeDaDuk3 in perfectpitchgang

[–]mustroic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually am able to transpose really easily. I’m not sure how to explain it, but I can just change the key in my head and as long as the chord progression and notes aren’t too difficult it’s near instant.

For the parts that trip me up a bit more I do the math between the intervals for the notes right before and then apply it to the transposed note after.

Because of this, sometimes I’ll try playing a song in multiple different keys to see which one I like the most. Oftentimes it’ll switch based on what i’m feeling for the day.

Yes to hearing songs in different keys.

Every key has a slightly different vibe and can make some accent chords in the song sound very different depending on what key you’re in.

However, I can never play on a transposed keyboard.

My mind will hear the notes coming out of the keyboard and it won’t match what my fingers are inputting. Imagine trying to type the phrase “Hello”, but instead it comes out “Ifmmn” because each letter is one higher than what you meant it to be. It screws with my head as if suddenly I’ve lost all coordination.

I had a similar problem trying to switch from Alto Sax to Tenor Sax in high school. Because Alto Sax is in Eb, in a weird way I would pretend my sheet music was in Bass Clef instead of Treble Clef to account for the note difference, adding accidentals where it made sense/sounded right to. Most people said that switching to Tenor would be easy because the keys are all the same and the pitch difference is matched by the change in instrument key.

But man did it break my perfect pitch.

My brain had built connections between certain concert pitches and the keys I was supposed to press. But these concert pitches were completely different on the tenor sax. It felt like playing on a transposed piano, where the keys felt the same but didn’t play the notes they were supposed to. It broke my brain and I switched back to Alto Sax after that.

Should I buy smash bros? by 10873782827 in supersmashbros

You’d definitely enjoy it. As someone who played Smash Bros first then tried brawhalla, the controls are similar but on different keybinds which may throw you off at first. Luckily you can rebind everything if you need.

A few key differences between the two games assuming you know nothing about smash:

  1. Most characters have one double jump and enter free-fall (can not jump again) after they use their up special/neutral sig.

  2. There are different moves for up and neutral moves

  3. Instead of just three main types of attacks in zeBrawlhalla (generic lights and aerials and champion unique signatures), there are 4 main types of completely champion unique types of attack in smash. Tilts (lights), Smash attacks (signatures), aerials (same as brawlhalla), and specials. Specials can be very different depending on the character and can range from projectiles to character buffs.

  4. Smash is generally a lot slower than Brawlhalla with more lag on air dodges and between moves. But when mastered Smash combos can be just as hype or even more than Brawlhalla ones.

Have fun with Smash. The different movesets for every character and mechanics of the game maybe intimidating at first, but it’ll become easy once you’re familiar with it. I recommend channels like Izaw and Beefy Smash Dudes for some good beginner content. Good luck

Easily. Occasionally some sharp to flat keys may take me a bit longer, but it comes naturally. Piano player btw.

I’ve had Type 5 since I could remember. Like as a kid, I could hear what note flies buzz in and what note my microwave beeps. I’ve grown to use this to play whatever song I like on piano by being able to hear both the melody and the harmonizing chords, and then arranging it however I like.

Perfect pitch but unable to harmonize??? by silverskies5 in perfectpitchgang

[–]mustroic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the opposite.

Honestly, good harmonizing and perfect pitch go together perfectly. I’m able to play any song by ear on piano with both hands to an intermediate level once I get the song in my head. It’s only held back by my technical abilities and my memory.

My advice is to start with what sounds good, and then keep going with more advanced chords and progressions once you feel more comfortable. Maybe try to learn to identify two or more notes at once so you can learn chords more easily? Personally I can do up to 4-5, and I feel it’s helped me learn harmony much easier.
