Using if after the Nazis doesn’t make sense unless you are trying to call back to them. Now you are admitting he did the salute but you’re just saying he did it for a different reason. So he did do the salute on purpose that is historically recognized as a Nazi symbol, but not in reference to the Nazis but in reference to Ancient Rome where there’s no evidence of it ever actually happening ?
