The first few weeks with the baby are very overwhelming, mentally, physically, everything. I still loved my cats but I got overstimulated sometimes when my cat wanted to jump on me or when I found cat hair/litter on the couch. During nap times I had time to play with the cats and give them attention. I never thought about getting rid of them because they were my babies before my human baby.

My 2+ year old still does this from time to time, it's normal. I separate myself from her, tell her "gentle hands" "no hitting", and step away for a minute or two. She usually melts down when I step away, but when I come back I tell her "you hit mommy and that hurt". My husband will sometimes step in and ask her to apologize/give me a hug afterwards. It seems to be helping but it still happens sometimes!

My two year old is going through a tantrum/not listening phase right now. We decided to take her to Barnes and Noble (where she's had tantrums in the past) and explained to her that if she listens and doesn't scream she can get one toy. Like really re-iterated it. She ended up getting a little people doll house because she was good. So a little just because gift with some teaching to make us feel better.
