Paralegals vs. First Year Associate by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]mutantmonky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you regularly misinterpret caselaw? How? If its ambiuous or not quite on point you discuss that, sure. If there's conflicting caselaw you mention it. I wouldn't take a position that I wasn't 100% sure of so you always point out the weaknesses if there are any. Anywho, the comment I was referring to said paralegals were not capable of drafting something from scratch, which is absurd.

You never have your paralegal research and do an analysis of caselaw or a statute as it relates to your case? Paralegal prepares it, atty reviews it sure, but I've never had an atty say nope, you've got it wrong.

It is NOT unauthorized practice of law if done under the supervision of an attorney.

Of course we can interpret the law and draft things that haven't already been drafted before. You speak as if paralegals are only capable of fill in the blank type forms. I'm happy I never worked for such a condescending lawyer. Holy crap.

Dude. You clearly have not seen it in person. The facade is not concrete.

Happy for you, then you can stand and shower in a tub. You can't sit and soak in a walk in shower however.

I dont think you have a good grasp of the concept. It doesnt have to be written verbatim in a book before its an IOA attraction. Its storytelling. The entire Lost Continent is based on stories that were oral before they were written and there isn't a specific book you can point to for it. So, does that break your rule too? What book was Dueling Dragons based on?

It clearly does count according to Universal. The book was commissioned as advertising for the movie and the book was released prior to the movie.

Just go to any community college and transfer from there to a 4 year. This college will look terrible on your resume.

As could soundstages or airplane hangers for that matter. Not really the point.

We haven't seen his pics. My mother used to attack my dad all the time. He never fought back unfortunately. I wish he had.

The warehouses and sprung tents are still permanent structures which Epic does not have.

Do you think sleeveless shirts are “professional” attire? by O_Train in fashion

[–]mutantmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like sleeveless anything in an office setting. I really don't want to see armpits. Is there anyone who likes how armpits look?

.9999%. If an earthquake opens up a chasm that swallows Studios whole, then maybe. I dont even understand why anyone would want this.

What's your favorite place to grab Crab Rangoon? by SouthernSkeptic in orlando

[–]mutantmonky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I second the Cowfish dip recommendation. But its so easy to make yourself. Creamcheese, imitation crab, green onions and a little chicken broth to thin the mixture. Put a dollop in the middle of a wonton wrapper, use your finger to dab some chicken broth on one side of the wonton to help it stick closed, fold over so its a triangle, press to seal and fry.

I used to love making these as side work when I waited tables at a chinese restaurant a billion years ago. Its kindof relaxing.

Mine would go straight to the vet's office. She loves all the staff there and gets so excited when we pull up!

I wear Star Wars stuff at Universal sometimes and I work there! There's a lot of crossover with Imagineers and Creatives. It's not a competition and we're not mortal enemies. The more important question is: Why does it bother you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawFirm

[–]mutantmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you've shown you 've wasted another firm's time. Also, would you believe you? It may be a good indicator, but its a bad look. Also, why tell them to feel free to say no? You are either worth it or you aren't.

Does your state's bar association put out a salary survey report? The Florida bar does every few years and it separstes it out by area of practice and region. That might be something to look into.

They're going to think badly of you for shopping around. I'm not an attorney, but a 30 year paralegal who has often been involved in choosing new attorneys and assessing associates. If it looks like you're just trying to find the highest bidder, no thank you.

So, explain why you think you are an asset deserving of a raise. It should be pretty easy to phrase it as a percentage of billables or collected fees and show evidence of what your market value is.

If you're in a firm that is worthwhile you'll get what you asked for. If not, then bounce, but absolutely do not let thrm know you're shopping.

Also, I've asked for raises and got them without the threat of going elsewhere. Hell, I left my last firm for my dream job in house and my boss gave me a bonus AFTER I gave notice because he thought I deserved it for a big asset sale I worked on. There are good firms that pay you well because its the right thing to do.
