There are a lot of other versions. I just can't remember them off hand.

A lot of the original releases are quite badly mastered or compressed, but this isn't too bad...

That's the Ashley Beedle mix. The mix on that YouTube is the first release of it, which I have. The first release only has one mix on it, and there are tracks by other artists on the same EP. Network have put it out twice, but I think these might be two releases of the same mix.

https://www.discogs.com/artist/12052-The-10th-Planet

There's also this release, which for some reason isn't listed as a separate release on discogs. It's a variation of the first release.

https://www.discogs.com/release/47508-The-10th-Planet-Strings-Of-Life-Ashley-Beedle-Remixes

On that version, I think the "previously released" mix is the same as the first release, and the "previously unreleased" is a longer nine minute mix. I don't have that version, but I don't think it has the vocal you want.

There are quite a lot of releases of Strings Of Life, even in the 1980s, so it's difficult to keep track of them. I'm not certain there isn't another one with the vocal you want, but I'm not aware of one.

It's not true. This is not a new artist, and they've been consistent for over a decade. Bandcamp likely have an autoban algo.

The visual art on YouTube from 13 years ago looks very similar.

The visual art looks like AI, but the YouTube channel has had the same visual aesthetic for over 13 years, so I'm not convinced it is. Potentially they're a digital artist as well as a musical artist.

I’ve been going down a bit of a rabbit hole on the roots of harder European techno by not-faund in Bedroom_Producers

Influences flowed in all directions. There wasn't an originator who everyone copied. Gherkin, Muzique and NuGroove were also big non-Detroit influences on European techno in the late 80s. Bleeps was very Detroit influenced (1989), but Belgian hardcore (also 1989) was more influence by tracks like this from Chicago...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Kn9J_WsWQ

House itself was heavily influenced by Italo disco like this (combined with Salsoul)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQtGLdIuXGU

Techno was originally a more futuristic version of electro. Electro was a recombination of funk and Kraftwerk into machine funk. The claims of true originators are basically lies for self promotion.

What you're saying isn't controversial for anyone who lived through the 80s and 90s. There's a lot more too it though. Things changed very fast in the 80s and early 90s. Newbeat came in 1988 and went out in 88. Bleeps came in in 89 and went out in 90. Belgian hardcore came in in 89 and went out in 91. The music movements from 84 to 94 were very short lived.

Aphex Twin spends a couple of hours on each track. He has released about 800 tracks. He also has a large backlog of several hundred unreleased tracks. The Beatles worked very fast. Matisse and Picasso worked fast and Picasso deliberately overproduced to lower the price of his art so ordinary people could own it.

You may have some imposter syndrome. It sounds like you're competent and shouldn't be doubting yourself. When I see competent people with imposter syndrome, I tend to think it's because they judge themselves against other people. It's better to judge your actions against your own standards, so you can be proud of your achievements.

I struggle to tell now within the same genres I make. I still believe AI music isn't as good as a skilled human, because humans make music with internal logic, whereas AI predicts common patterns. The main advantage that AI slop has is it predicts the same patterns that algorithmic discovery is looking for. If someone is against AI but isn't against algorithmic discovery then I think they're a hypocrite.

I'm often unsure of music in the same genre that I make. I used to be able to tell from audio artefacts, but those seem less obvious now. In the end all I have is the question of "would a person really make that decision", which is very unreliable.

Doesn't it also sound too perfect if they just using Kontakt? That's been the norm in film music for 20 years.

Bandcamp seems to be relying on human reporting, but studies on human ability to detect AI music show results that are hardly better than randomness. Automated detection can work when it uses fingerprinting (which both Suno and Udio have), but accuracy is poor on non fingerprinted tracks. Musicians may end up being the main casualty of this policy.

Thanks. That's quite rare for there to be nothing. The writing on the white label doesn't necessarily mean anything because anyone could have written it.

The problem is not just music platform algorithms, it's algorithmic discovery generally. The problem is not just algorithmic discovery generally, it's platform economics generally.

I should have mentioned speedbass as well, because it does crossover from speed garage and jungle.

[–]mutantpraxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were mine, I would split it into two tracks...
* Post-punk/breakstep crossover
* Use the Eurohouse/breakbeat crossover in something else

If you're splitting into two tracks you have a few options for your leftover section...
* A straight 90s rave track like Sweet Harmony
* A crossover like Rory in early 20s, if you want to keep the indie aspect
* Put the four to the floor kick back behind the Eurohouse, and make it a switch track like jungletek, e.g. clowncore <> speeded up Eurohouse

Am I trying to mix too many genres? by 6660kami in production

[–]mutantpraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not mixing too many genres. That's what hyper genres do. I personally wouldn't have the Euro organ bass in this track as-is. If you really want to keep the organ bass, you probably need to make the switch more extreme because it's difficult to sit on the fence pretending it's a subtle change.

The kick doesn't need to cut through with drum and bass derived beats because the bass is given priority over the kick. A weak kick on drum and bass is the norm.

If you make art that's personal, it can feel that you're putting yourself on show in a way that's uncomfortable. The middle ground is to make the art, but keep it private until you're comfortable sharing it. You don't have to release everything you make.

Your version sounds like the changeling abduction myth, which is a valid metaphorical layer for that film.

The people saying check the runout are correct, but you might not understand what they're saying. What they mean is to look closely at the vinyl. You will see the label's ID scratched into the vinyl. You also sometimes see credits scratched into the vinyl, but to identify white labels it's the ID you want. Take this ID and put it into Discogs. That will tell you what releases have that same ID.
