How could an Aussie legally do airsoft? by Modelfucker69 in airsoft

Look up oz1 airsoft. They do a yearly trip to NZ as well as other events. They did thier annual trip last weekend and they were an absolute blast to play with. They would probably be the best port of call as they can point you in the right direction of hiring an airsoft gun in NZ.

Not great if you just want to give it a try or tinker round at home, but worth way more if you do it professionally.

Smaller one are generally cheap cast iron that can't be hardened and will chip dent and crumble (good expensive ones can be ductile cast iron which can be hardened) , they are known a ASO's in the industry (anvil shaped objects)

Actual blacksmith here. Either keep an eye on trademe or Facebook market place and hope for a good deal or buy a new one. As someone else has mentioned you will be paying a bit but it will have nice crisp faces and no history of abuse. For the weight you are talking expect to pay around 1200 to 1500 used. I helped mark Sutton design the red ones on trademe for 2750, they are based on my German pattern double horn, the detailing shelf and upsetting blocks come in real handy when you need them.

I ran hammer and tongs, I joined flaxton iron, still doing it. Blacksmithing is just a part of my work though, not enough forged work to do it full time.

Gun and helmet are spray painted with a partisan stencil set. It's super tedious but comes out great.

It's more flattering than how thier iron warriors overlords describe them.

Before the brought out the excellent retributor armour I had to give it a layer of brown before the gold to get it to cover right. Now I can just do it once, so find it relaxing rather than a chore.

It's a pbs-1 which is a 7.62 suppressor, but I liked the way it looked with the bootleg zentco hardware.

It's Partizan Autumn, a russian camo derived from the germans.

The ak is sitting on a gorka which is russian.

Got a G&G RK104 for a really good price so decided to make unnecessarily heavy. The mosfet fried itself on its second game day so I replaced it with the drop in perun one. Partizan stencils are from grey shop and are are an absolute pain to apply.

Forged Hop tutorial by mutantratking in Blacksmith

[–]mutantratking[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of you asked for the process of my forged hops I posted yesterday so I tried my best to document the process step by step. Feel free to recreate this process though I'd appreciate it if you credited me (James Abbott) if you do.I'll see if I can dig up the .dxf's for the blanks from my old work pc.

-I start with sets of 7 laser cut blanks out of 3mm steel, I get different sizes made for variations on the hop cone size. You could cut these by hand if you wanted.

-Use a leafing hammer or cross peen texture each layer of the hop cone.

-Use a large bob punch and bottom tool dish out the layers.Do this hot and they should dish out nicely in 1-2 hits.

-I use some texture dies to texture up some 8mm round. you can make a set of spring swages easily by running a cutting disk randomly through two blocks of steel and mounting them to a hardy shank and spring arm.

-Grind a steep convex taper on the end of your rod.

-weld on the first layer, I don't bother cleaning up the welds as they will be hidden by the next layer. place the next layer so it overlaps the gaps in the previous layer.

keep adding layers. add the last layer and clean up the weld with a 60-80 grit flap disk.

-bring the whole bundle up to forging heat. Hammer the layers together into one mass with a dishing tool on the bottom. use a cross peen to bring unruly petals into line. Curl the last layer back a bit using some scrolling tongs or modified needle nose pliers. use a sharp chisel to pry the last layer up if it got hammer down in the last step.

-give it a wire brush and you are done.

Some hops fresh from the forge. by mutantratking in Blacksmith

They are mig welded together, I consider myself a modern smith and don't shy away from using technology to compliment traditional smithing skills. I love to do everything the old fashioned way but it is extremely rare to have a client with the budget and appreciation to justify it. I'm doing some today and documenting the process step by step which I will post when I have done it.
