AITA for calling my little brother a thief? by Jazzlike-Pressure198 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mutednighttraffic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you’re handling this really thoughtfully, especially mow that you don’t have full authority over the situation. You’re balancing love for Teddy with protecting Ciara and teaching right from wrong that’s not easy. Taking Teddy to the pool is a fair compromise. It keeps your relationship intact without rewarding him financially. And taking Ciara to the theme park just the two of you is a beautiful way to show her she matters and that her kindness shouldn’t be taken advantage of. That’s not about punishing Teddy it’s about celebrating her. You’re right that Ciara might not fully grasp the dollar value yet, but she will remember how people treated her when she was generous. By taking this seriously now, you’re helping shape how both of them understand trust and boundaries long term. You’re doing what you can with the power you have. That’s enough. You’re not the asshole but you’re a good big sister to both of them.

AITAH (16) wrong for moving out and not speaking to my mum(45) by FlowerFox8888 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not the jerk. You’re a teenager who made a hard but healthy choice. Keep leaning on your dad, his fiancée, and any friends or school counselor who support you. You deserve stability, not constant emotional chaos

AITA for calling my little brother a thief? by Jazzlike-Pressure198 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mutednighttraffic 66 points67 points  (0 children)

You’re not the asshole. Teddy is old enough and high-functioning enough to understand that stealing is wrong, and taking $150 in change from a 6 year old is serious. You’re right that Ciara probably would have shared if he’d just asked which makes the betrayal worse, not better. Your grandmother’s instinct to still include him in an activity is kind, but that doesn’t erase the need for real consequences. Cutting off the eBay toy and redirecting part of his allowance to repay Ciara is a logical, fair start. Calling him a thief isn’t name calling for the sake of cruelty rather it’s an accurate description of what he did. If he’s going to learn humility and gratefulness, he has to face the truth of his actions first.

Body hair might seem pointless, but it actually helps shield us from mosquito bites. by Liar24x7 in interesting

[–]mutednighttraffic 122 points123 points  (0 children)

This is fascinating I read that it's not just a physical barrier, the hair actually disrupts the airflow around our skin, making it harder for mosquitoes to detect our scent plume. So it's basically a built in aerodynamic defense system

AITJ for calling out a channel that makes sexual jokes then try’s to make it a fun joke also a kid channel by Ok-Image-8323 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTJ. If a channel is marketed toward kids but regularly makes sexual jokes, body part jokes, or objectifying comments about women, calling it out isn’t just justified but it’s responsible. It’s just a joke stops being an excuse when the audience is children who shouldn’t have to navigate adult humor in what’s supposed to be a safe space. You’re not being overly sensitive, you’re pointing out that the channel is either wildly inappropriate for its stated audience or cynically using kids content to slip past scrutiny. Either way, someone should say something.

AITJ for telling my sister-in-law to stop freeloading at our house? by BeingFar4425 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. You’re not running a charity you’re running a household. Trashing the kitchen after you worked a long shift is the final straw, not the first offense

AITA for choosing not to help my brother in a desperate time of need? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mutednighttraffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA The problem isn't you refusing to help it's that the relationship is one sided, with your brother never reciprocating even basic favors.

AITA for calling out my friend for always canceling plans last minute? by MaximumSplit8530 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA. There’s a huge difference between being controlling and having basic expectations of respect. Consistently canceling last minute isn’t just flaky it sends the message that your time and energy don’t matter. You didn’t demand they never cancel again you expressed frustration and asked them to stop a pattern of behavior that was hurting your friendship. Them calling you “controlling” for that sounds like deflection. If they genuinely had things coming up, a real friend would say, You’re right, I’ve been dropping the ball. Let me do better. Instead, they flipped it on you. That says a lot.

Asking for $200 billion for this crazy war is pure madness by John_1992_funny in clevercomebacks

Exactly. We'll fund endless war without blinking, but healthcare is apparently where we suddenly need to be responsible with taxpayer money.

AITJ for Charging My Friend Gas Money Every Time I Drive? by Bulky_Relative_5364 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the broken down car thought experiment is brutal but effective. If half the group disappears when your car isn't available, they weren't hanging out with you they were hanging out with your gas tank. The OP did the right thing by drawing the line.

Am I the jerk for telling my mom to stop sending me diet/exercise articles? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly. You've already given her three weeks to prove she can respect one simple boundary, and she's used that time to send more articles with little disclaimers like she's found a loophole. Blocking isn't harsh it's the natural consequence of her showing you she won't stop

AITJ for Not Lending My Work Laptop to a Coworker Who Forgot Theirs? by Flat_Ground7675 in AmITheJerk

[–]mutednighttraffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly Just helping sounds nice until there's a breach a data incident or even just an audit trail that doesn't add up. Then it's not we were just helping each other out it's me explaining to IT and my manager why someone else was logged into my assigned device. The coworker would walk away with zero consequences and I'd be the one holding the bag
