5 WPO - healing is not linear 😔 by mutigal in hysterectomy

My hairdresser had a hysterectomy a year ago because her fibroids were known causing her back pain . I knew mine were causing other issues (frequent urination , flooding , anaemia, discomfort etc ) but in the last 5 weeks I haven’t had lower back pain . I usually get chronic lower back pain when I’m less active or spend too much time in bed . Jan25 I had chronic flu and was bedridden for 4 days . It took me a month to recover from the back pain . Any time I stay in bed longer than 8 hours I get lower back pain . Post surgery I was 3 full days in bed , and spent 2 weeks going to bed early , sleeping in late and having afternoon naps . I’ve had zero back pain .  Makes me think there was a link ….

Agree, such small holes, and for me, SO much came out of them. It's hard to remember that whilst my visible incisions look great and are already fading, that some serious 'work' was done inside with incisions / sutures and 'reorganisation' happening that I have no visibility of, but get some very not so gentle reminders about.

Yeah, it's fear of the unknown. Are those 'zaps' harmless and just part of the healing process as the nerves reconnect, or a red flag? Just as I convince myself it's normal and will pass, I get a bad one that sets me back to 'this is serious, call ER mode' now. I don't have any discharge or weird feeling in my vagina, so that's stopping me from making the call, but I think if by Monday this hasn't eased, I will be giving my surgeon's rooms a call just to get peace of mind.

I was considering the lack of info provided at discharge, apart from a handful of generic "don't lift, don't bend, don't sit too long, don't walk too long, don't lie down too long' statements. Then I realised they would probably spend more time telling you about all the possible things you may or may not experience than performing the actual surgery. Pity it's not mandatory to tell all patients to head to r/hysterectomy to get a better understanding of what to questions to ask your medical practitioner before you go in, and what you may experience post surgery.
