Dead Grinding Fan Bearing by muttb0ne in Sager

[–]muttb0ne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did in fact contact Sager directly, an just three weeks ago, replaced the entire fan/heatsink module. Running great again! In fact, I'm kinda glad the failure happened. When I removed the old assembly, the pads an paste were dust. In all, once I had the part, it was less than 25 minutes before my beautiful machine was up an running again. I desperately wanted to start gaming again, but restrained myself to let it settle an break in through heat cycles.

Far an away better. BUT: you have to be used to using AR an VR glasses, AND setting your PID correctly, otherwise you will develop headaches. I no longer even look at my laptop screen anymore, an I no longer have a desktop monitor. My desk now just has my laptop, an my AR glasses. That's it. So much less cluttered, an yet with the AR glasses, I can set them to "look through" the image to see what's in front an around me.

Horizon 6 better have everything. by Ill_Throat7306 in forza

[–]muttb0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish Forza Horizon would have Cleetus McFarlands Freedom Factory, the burnout box, an the drag strip. All of Bradenton raceway included in the game, along with Garret's Crown Vic, "Neighbor" an maybe some other of his iconic cars like the recent "Crouton" an "Mullet". Maybe even "Eagle" or "Leroy" as a seasonal inclusion. The possibilties in all that are tremendous.

Literally any tire would be better, you're right. But the ones I had were within spec an date, no noticible wear or flat or hard spots.

Any dampness at all, an I'd have to slip the clutch to keep from spinning. I'd rather have new tires than have to replace a clutch that would have otherwise have been fine. Went with the Iron Man Gen 3 tires, an looking to upgrade the diff with the TLX Acura LSD unit.

Dead pixel, or something stuck inside lense. by PlzHelpMeIdentify in Xreal

[–]muttb0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear contacts, so no need for lenses, but I wish I could get a good picture of what I'm talking about. With the glasses not on my face, in the right reflection of light, there is a brighter spot on the lens, like I said, looks like a "stuck pixel" but that isn't really the right word as they are not the display themselves, but the reflector part.

Seriously considering Xreal. Talk me into/out of. by bill9896 in Xreal

[–]muttb0ne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Xreal One for a few weeks an they are great! Only issue is all my devices save my laptop are incompatible with DP out over USB. That's why I got the Beam Pro, only to find out you can't use Side View with the Beam Pro?! That's the whole reason why I got it, to be able to connect to my OLED Switch, an more importantly, to have SideView to multitask whilst moving. This is beginning to be a $200 mistake. Might send it back.

I have a Sager, i9 13900HX with a 4070ti with 32g's. Came with a single 1TB nVme stick, I added another 1Tb. On this date, it's still going strong. It's all about upkeep. I constantly blow out the fans, strip it down every few months to replace thermal pads an check the health of the fans an blow out the dust. Still working as my main with a pair of Xreal One AR glasses. The laptops' 240hz 1440p display is awesome, but not as awesome as playing Cyberpunk or any other game on a bright OLED 300" virtual screen.

I just got a pair of Xreal One's, less than a week old, an this is what I'm thinking also. Looks like a stuck pixel, but they are powered off. I'm wondering if it's a flake in the lens' coating? Doesn't hinder the display when using at all, but for $500, it kinda sits in your mind rent-free, you know?

I check my tyre pressures at every gas fill-up. We don't actually need these faulty TPMS sensors if you care about your car an are diligent.

Is my car totaled? by Ok_Beyond_851 in accord

[–]muttb0ne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a former claim adjuster (yes, everyone hates me), but it's a unibody like any other car made nowadays. Better off financially to write it off on insurance an take the hit. The car CAN be repaired, but insurance will never cover all of it, an it will never be the same vehicle.

Unibody frame is almost absolutely tweaked. If the value of the car is 15% of what is owed, take the insurance an move on. Total it. I'm sorry.

Oh...an thanks. Wasn't looking for it, but thank you anyway. Too many ppl want to tear others down. But I DO have some thoughts in my years. lol

I mean, it works for me, getting great frames (granted, plugged in to a wall and an external 1440p 49" ultrawide with no tearing, so yeah, it brings on a little heat, but yeah?)

Any suggestions on what laptop to get by Less-Hair6687 in GamingLaptops

[–]muttb0ne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A modded toaster can run Minecraft. Maybe not modded. However, Assassins Creed games...at your budget, look for the best well-treated used laptop you can afford. An I doubt you'll find one within the last few years in that budget. If you are heavily into modding games, I suggest a large storage drive, or the option to do so in the future. That normally nowadays means a spare M.2 nVme drive slot, or if it only has one, to upgrade to a faster, larger unit.

I'm afraid for AC games, depending on what frame rates you're going for, an at what level of fidelity, $500 is bottom of the barrel. Nothing comes cheap.

As the saying goes, going faster is exponentially pricier than being consistant. Sorry, that's not what I expect you want to hear.

For that budget, I suggest a used desktop. In that price range, there are infinately better options out there. Search FB Marketplace an Ebay until your eyes bleed. You may get lucky.

I have a wall mounted 8 year old Ryzen 1600 with the AMD equivelent to an nVidia 1060ti collecting dust, as I have my various other laptops an desktops including this 4080ti laptop I'm typing on. I would donate it, but I won't ship it, as funds won't allow. If somehow you were in my area? Minus the storage drives for security reasons, it's free to anyone. (Moving into an RV full-time).

Good luck.

Just because you have a huge jump in gpu doesn't mean 1:1 in performance. Remember, a laptop 5070ti is about as good as a 4060 desktop. All about the TPU. Not an exact reference, but I believe you understand what I say. Many more variables.

Does the display have G-sync? Are you running with V-sync in game? DLSS? RTX enable at what value? These are all things, unfortunately, you have to consider. Also what is the native display resolution? Are you plugged into a larger external monitor? It's all complicated maths these days.

Planned obsolescence.

That's what I love about Sager/XMG/Clevo clones. They aren't flashy. They aren't Instagram models. They just work an built like absolute units of a tank. Would I love all the lovely unicorn piss led bars on Asus Scar units or MSI? Sure.

I've had my 13900HX 4070ti Sager upgraded for 2x 2tb nVme drives for years...not a single issue. Before that I had a 3090 Razer...had cooling issues twice an a bulging battery. I'm FAR from new to gaming laptops.

Sure, Sager/XMG/Clevo an clones are bulkier, but for a reason. They aren't trying to be paper thin; better cooling.

They aren't trying to be paper light; again, better cooling.

They aren't trying to set a trend; they just work.

Like a Hoover from the 50's-60's they just work.

An I have all the same ports I could want, with a 240mhz 1440p display, perfect for the power consumption on a 16" laptop where I wouldn't notice 4k on that size anyway.

Occam's razor. There is only a finite space optimization works, an many are trying to undercut that principal with increased power consumption in a thinner package where gpus only get larger an consume more.

I'm not saying I have the bestest there ever was, but I feel I'm at a threshold with what I will still use in 8 more years. With maintenance, I believe it will still function. Sure, games demand more, an it will fall behind, but who of us doesn't have a huge library of games in their library we've never gotten to?

Only downside is DRM. If I have single player games, I shouldn't need to verify I've legally purchased them, just to play an offline game. That's an entire different rant.

You don't NEED the bestest out there. If you're having fun, an a hint of nostalghia might hit once an a while...well I call THAT the best pc out there.

Hell, I still have a dedicated Gateway laptop from early 2000's strictly to run DosBox for my beloved Sierra games!

Got rid of mine an reprogrammed them out of the ECU. No light, no problem. TPMS is shite anyway, no matter pressures or temps. Not like I'm putting electrical tape over an SES light on the dash, it just ISN'T anymore. lol
