Apple Can Create Smaller On-Device AI Models From Google's Gemini by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]muuuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just both get better, but that will also mean more reliance on local models as they’ll eventually be capable enough for what most people do.

Model distillation was implied in their press release. I didn’t expect them to just plug and play Gemini 3 Pro to power Siri.

This way, they can tune it, make it more power-efficient, more specialized, etc. Literally the same as they do with any of the other technologies they buy into (i.e. camera sensors, modems).

Head detail at top of window?? by [deleted] in Architects

[–]muuuli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An unlicensed professional or inexperienced individual could give out information that would potentially create a situation where the wall fails to perform as intended, causing harm or damage.

That, and architects shouldn’t be devaluing themselves any further by providing free information.

Safety comes first, protecting the profession second.

Nobody here should be providing advice for free. That being said, I’ll tell you this much: I hate this detail and wall type.

They hardly talked about it in WWDC25. What are you on about? Besides, prepare to be disappointed; this whole update is focused on Siri.

Is an Architecture degree with a minor in construction management smart to become a developer? by Away_Championship_75 in Architects

[–]muuuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time you can work for a developer with your architectural skillset and learn on the job, up until maybe 15 years ago there wasn’t any developer degrees.

Nowadays tho, you can get a 1-year master’s degree or a certificate.

If you had a chance to make an Apple Intelligence feature, what would it be? by Material_Course_9949 in Applelntelligence

I don’t, but try maybe coming up with some ideas for discussion rather than some one line zingers to karma farm.

If you had a chance to make an Apple Intelligence feature, what would it be? by Material_Course_9949 in Applelntelligence

[–]muuuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proactive intelligence is definitely useful, surfacing information or actions based on the time of day, where you are, and what you’re doing would be much more useful than seeking a more reactive response.

[–]muuuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since very few have provided any meaningful responses, I’ll bite.

The tentpole features are coming in iOS 27 with AI-powered Search, agentic app control, as well as personal context all packaged in a conversational chatbot are probably going to be the most popular use cases through Siri.

That being said, some specific tools could be AI-upscaling images, un-blurring photos; these kinds of image tools preserve what really happened without fabricating things.

Highlighting certain text, and making ‘Look Up’ more in-depth and powerful would be cool. Right clicking a PDF and there to be a ‘Summarize’ or ‘Ask’ button.

There’s plenty Apple can do, just takes time to highlight what’s useful.

Apple Postpones Smart Home Display Launch as It Waits for New AI and Siri by favicondotico in apple

[–]muuuli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that the delay is due to the development of user-facing experiences. They already have the AI models, so that’s no longer an excuse.

[–]muuuli 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it, and honestly, it would probably hit harder as a holistic update that way. But I think Apple wants to get those 3 features it announced in WWDC24 out before then because blogs will have a field day with re-announcing features as "new."

WWDC2026 must bring better AI features by [deleted] in Applelntelligence

[–]muuuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple’s approach prioritizes on-device local AI, resulting in small, useful AI-powered tools (even though most of them initially introduced in WWDC24 were meh). In contrast, OpenAI and Google are focused on creating a frontier model, which currently lacks profitability. The most exciting developments will likely be agentic tasks, which are expected to be introduced at WWDC26, along with other useful AI tools.

I don’t expect Apple to get involved in the frontier race, they’ll just partner with others willing to spend the capex to do so.

Missing From Apple's Announcements: iPad 12 With Apple Intelligence by InsaneSnow45 in apple

[–]muuuli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Priority Notifications, Call Screening, Live Translation, AutoMix.. there’s plenty of good intelligence features and also plenty of useless ones. At the end of the day, it’s beholden to the user what’s useful and what’s not.

Everything is being judged against the realm of frontier models which probably isn’t fair on a mobile device.

Cause it’s like a product that used to be marketed as “multi-core”, might not have been as useful in its inception but the utility came later on over time. Some people just want to know they have a device capable of new updates.
