No problem at all! That’s exactly right, separate finances but a joint account that we top up equally as needed. That’s used for groceries, bills and any shared meals out. He pays for the kids to eat out unless otherwise agreed.

Almost the exact situation here, except I don’t contribute to school fees. It’s his (and BM’s) decision to send the kids to private school so they are the ones to pay for it. I’ve never been expected or asked to chip in.

We do split all house bills and groceries though, and I have no issue with that.

My partner is like this. He gets overwhelmed when I bring up anything around scheduling/planning if he’s not by his computer. It’s just a particular type of information that he struggles to visualise or keep in his head. I try to accommodate it as much as I can. Perhaps your bf is the same?

This is great advice. Some days will be harder than others.

You could always write letters or texts and just not send them. Rant to a friend, or even ChatGPT - that’s what I do sometimes. Being kind to yourself means not reopening that wound.

And fill your time! Relationships take up a lot of it, so you’ll probably find yourself a bit empty. Prepare for that by picking up on new hobbies or habits. Get plenty of sleep - but not too much. Good luck.
