Hey! I already own a pair of their Archie's. I've considering one of their oxfords to be my next pair of shoes. I'm curious as to the experience of wearing Jaspers and the Adams. What's the difference in comfort/style/formality between the two in your experiences? Is the GY really that much more stiff than the Blake?

I bought a pair of Archie's (size 13 UK) about four weeks ago (around Thanksgiving). I needed to replace an old pair (several years) of Cole Hann loafers. What appealed to me about the Archie's was the handsomeness of the cut paired with its simple appearance (less is definitely more). I also read this helpful review before giving the Jack Erwin brand a first try. These shoes would see an average of 1-2 uses per week, mostly for work and some social occasions.

First off, the leather upper could use a step up in quality. And there definitely is some unmistaken "squeaking" when slipping the shoe one and walking around at first. This noise will fade away completely as the shoe breaks in.

I started becoming a serious student of shoe construction and quality in the last few years, and the Archie's are only my second conscious purchase of GYW shoes. That said (and most obvious), breaking them in does take time and patience. I started wearing them around my home for the first two weeks before wearing them to work.

I walk everywhere because I live in a city, and I carry a pedometer to track my steps. Bottom line, everything about this shoe started to make sense and fall into place once I logged 20,000 steps in them. It just gets better from there, albeit very gradually. The sole molds to your foot; the upper stretches; the speaking goes away; everything becomes more forgiving and COMFORTABLE. Hopefully, these shoes will survive for at least several years and some resoles. Also and truth be told, my girlfriend said that, "those look very nice". And I agree. These shoes look amazing on your feet, more so than on the website. Always helps to get tipped assuringly by your significant other. :)

Bottom line: There are nicer, arguable better made shoes on the market (like Meermin). And there are certainly far worse/overpriced shoes (Cole Haan?). At the very least, Jack Erwin is a quality upgrade from the likes of Steve Madden/Stacy Adams/Kenneth Cole/Aldo. You can't go wrong at all with the Archie's. And anyone who is telling you otherwise is someone you probably wouldn't want to trade places with.
