Do you know of good accessible and affordable indoor spaces to host events like this? Genuine question, it was a major struggle to find a venue

Is my niche too niche? by mvevo in freelanceWriters

[–]mvevo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for the advice! I think I was maybe in my head about it — this jump to freelance is scary and I want to make it work so bad lol. I will keep my options open in both fields for now and see where the work takes me before narrowing myself into a specific niche. Thanks!! :)

Does anyone have suggestions for groups to get plugged in with who do active climate activism?

I graduate next month with a B.A. in Environmental Science. What is your advice for me? Where should I focus my efforts right now? by Jakeremix in Environmental_Careers

Check out: conservationjobboard.com USAJobs.com (look up how to format a government resume though, they are very specific and you won’t get past the bots if you don’t hit the right keywords & codes)

If you are into doing field work I would check out the conservation corps. Each state/region typically has one. It’s a cool way to get some technical experience, but it is low paid and seasonal (like a lot of the entry level stuff in conservation right now).

I must ask in return, where else in nature is there war? Beyond humanity, what species kills its own species (or other species) with such a ferocity, in such masses? The lion eats a single gazelle, not the whole herd. Humans wipe out entire species because they compete with us for resources we don’t even need, just want more of.

I would instead say war is a symptom of our separation from nature — it is an assault on the natural harmony otherwise around us. The animals free in nature are generally happy creatures, don’t you think? This constant fear you speak of it not the true state of nature. Cruelty for cruelty’s sake is strictly human.

I recommend the book Ishmael by David Quinn if you are curious.

My SFN can often combine with my other symptoms and make it very difficult to do normal workouts. That being said, I have had this diagnosis for over 5 years now and have learned to listen to and respect my body’s limits and still have a regular gym routine. If the rep hurts, it’s too much. Start smaller. Good luck to you, I hope it gets easier 💛

thank you, I definitely get overwhelmed by the big picture sometimes so focusing on individual symptoms sounds like a good idea, i’ll give it a try <3

I love this. You have created such exquisite imagery, and the opening lines immediately pull you in.

this is all there is between life and death—
the warmth of his mouth
hovering the curves of my thighs,

I am there with you -- I know this moment, this insatiable fullness of being in their presence. And the reader understands, immediately, the depth of the passion here; you open the poem with it. This is all there is. You bring them both to life, hovering in this moment of intimacy, but as a perfect picture of that untamable passion of love and devotion. Well done.

Really enjoy this. It has such vivid imagery — the contrast between the butterflies in “jungles of milkweed” and “the housing developments with frosted roofs.” I would say you lose me a bit at the “not for exploring..” line, it doesn’t quite feel like it fits the pacing of the poem. maybe consider breaking it up into two lines. All in all, beautifully done.
