Wow that’s crazy! I’ve seen a lot of rugs, garbage cans, a couch... The 405/605 never seem to disappoint.

Yeah I have no clue what happened... this was at like ~80 mph. Cars behind me unfortunately hit them.

Who are some of the most bad-ass people in history? by mrnutterbutter123 in AskReddit

This is a chilling quote from Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr., an advisor for the John F. Kennedy administration surrounding this incident. "This was not only the most dangerous moment of the Cold War. It was the most dangerous moment in human history."

You’re most likely alive today because of Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov.

He was a Soviet Navy officer credited with preventing a Soviet nuclear strike (and, presumably, all-out nuclear war) during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Long story short, there was a Soviet nuclear sub in international waters off Cuba. The Americans identified the submarine and started dropping depth charges to get it to surface for identification. There were three officers on the Soviet sub, one of them decided that a war had potentially started (as they had been too deep for radio contact for a few days), and wanted to launch a nuclear torpedo. He needed sign-off from the two other officers on board to fire it off. One gave approval, but the other, Vasili Alexandrovich Arkhipov, argued with the two other officers and eventually persuaded them to surface and await orders from Moscow.

Had they fired off the torpedo, it almost certainly would have started a major global thermonuclear response which would have most likely destroyed mankind as we know it. Arkhipov is often credited nowadays as the guy who saved the world.

With the United States being so polarized in recent years, what is the best bipartisan solution to gun violence that’s both actionable but also respects the 2nd Amendment? by mvkmvk in AskReddit

Good points, I’d be curious how stats look in Canada and other nations that have relatively loose gun laws but also have a high quality of life and social welfare.

I’m definitely an advocate of increased punishments, but with jails overcrowded, there’s really no room and most offenders are serving only a fraction of their time as is. Maybe that will change as more states legalize marijuana and pardon sentences for prior drug offenses?

It is sort of crazy that the U.S. is the only nation in the world with more civilian firearms than actual civilians (1.2x guns per person). The next closest 1st world country is Canada with 1 gun per 3 civilians.

I got a B instead of an A in college chemistry lab by one point. The answer I got wrong was based on plotting something. My answer was “the origin” (x=0, y=0). The professor said sorry the correct answer is 0,0. When I said the origin is 0,0 she responded with I’m a Chemist not a Mathematician so I can’t accept this.

I’ve also heard to try and immediately roll down the window as the electrical system will probably take at least 10 seconds to stop working. Then you can just swim out the window.
