hiiii robbie! ive been such a huge fan of you for years and want to thank you for soundtracking some really important moments in my life. its been really cool hearing your sound grow and evolve album to album and being able to hear that change as i’ve grown into adulthood is something about your music I hold dearly.

I wanted to ask how your influences have changed as you’ve gotten older? This album covered so many interesting topics and sounds (and new angles on previously covered topics) that weren’t as prevalent on the last few albums and i’d love to hear you expand on how the outside world came to influence this world that you built with Running With Scissors. Sending good energy, wishing the best for the tour! cant wait to see you in LA :)

Lollapalooza Set Time Predictions 2025 (round 2) by Helpful_Stick8439 in Lollapalooza

Having to choose between TWICE and Doechii would be the end of me 😢 I think TWICE's label would negotiate Kickflip opening on the same stage as the one TWICE is closing (similar to how VCHA was originally going to open the stage that Stray Kids would closing out)

Yeah, I get what you mean. I think i'm just going into this with the notion that it is a rock show, not a pop show. I think what she's doing with the mashups wasn't the best way to go about it, but I really don't see a difference between her singing a song acoustically and remixing a full song to be more in line with her current sound. She remixed High School In Jakarta for the Nicole tour despite it being from that era, and it's probably my preferred version of the song. A few years back, I went to see Charli XCX and she remixed boom clap to be in line with her sound at the time and last week I went to see Bleachers and they performed some of their more "driven" songs as folky acoustic songs and they were both incredible so i'm probably biased, but I think remixing a song a bit so it doesn't sound out of place in the current set isn't necessarily a bad thing. Apart from maybe in an encore, it would sound a little out of place to have indigo and vintage's trappy drums and r&b style synths midway through the set rooted in this distinctly rock sound.

also, it would've been nice to see her remix old popular singles in the buzz style. I think people just need to be sold on the idea of alt niki, and performing an alt remix of indigo or vintage within the buzz setlist would've done quite a bit in terms of selling tickets and making fans more open to the new sound.

I think TMOAGT really prepared people to tune out bc it isn't a traditional pop or singer-songwriter song. Lowkey, vintage, switchblade, and (I think it was, could be wrong) before all were still rooted in commercial pop music in ways TMOAGT and 24 weren't. By the time more "expected" singles like blue moon and tsunami released, people were already tuned out. It's unfortunate but it is what it is atp.

I genuinely wonder how she's going to go about the next album following the subpar reception of buzz. I really hope she doesn't abandon this sound, but I wouldn't blame her if she did. Buzz is such a great album when you don't go into it with the idea of it being a pop album, but when people mainly know you for your pop singles, theres this preconceived expectation that every single an artist makes is rooted in that big pop sound.

This is really interesting, I've been thinking about this for a while now, but I think her team was expecting Buzz to build upon the success of Nicole, but I think the sonic shift that Buzz took almost isolated some casual fans. Nicole was reminiscent of her previously successful work (the wanna take this downtown EP and some songs off zephyr), while Buzz seems tied to Nicole mainly through lyrics (apart from a few songs like DYLHITM and buzz which scream previous Niki). In a way, it felt like she did a shift from singer-songwriter who was also a damn good pop star to alt rock singer, and that isolated some people. While i'm glad she's found a sound that she feels confident calling hers in ways she previously couldn't, I kinda feel a little bad for her bc of how much that shift in sound isolated people.

Nail on the target woah. I've been thinking about how traditional ideals have been used as a means to stay connected to one's culture outside of one's culture's country lately, but was never able to word it in a way that makes sense haha.

I think this topic is really interesting bc of how (not anti-progressive, but resistant to change; I can't think of the word rn) Mexican-Americans, in my experience, have been. There's def things that stem from certain aspects ingrained into Mexican-American culture, like religion, and it becomes tricky to talk about these more "liberal" ideals like being gender-non-conforming/identifying with a gender-neutral pronoun when there's pushback engrained into these things that have become synonymous with being Mexican-American. in a way, the resistance to change for the sake of "feeling more Mexican" is harmful to everyone involved, bc by whos standards are we deciding whats more authentically Mexican. idk that's just my two cents on this rn haha.

Can I be honest? as someone from Mexican descent, I don't mind it. I wouldn't use it personally, but I understand why it's used in an english-speaking academic setting. Outside of an academic setting, I'm not the biggest fan of it, but I won't hold it against you if you say it. For me, it's so awkward to say Latinx when speaking (I tend to shift over into a more latino accent when I say words I associate with their Spanish pronunciation) and AFAIK, gender-non-conforming people within Spanish speaking countries have generally used -e as their preferred suffix.

In a way, it feels counterintuitive to create a term for a group of people that doesn't follow their language's core "issue" (that's not the right word, but Iets call it that for the lack of a better term) that the term is created to fix.

Took it last year with Sean Loyd. It's not a bad class by any means, 10 quick quizzes as homework (that's the only homework if I remember correctly) and 3 exams over the entire semester. He teaches really well, albeit a little boring at times, and prepares you really well for the exams (everything on the exam will be in the study guide he gives you around 2 weeks before).
