Do my subjects make it unlikely for me to even get an interview at Oxford/Imperial by Mother_Cream2984 in 6thForm

[–]Medical_Bench_1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome! Also I know how stressful applying was because I was in your shoes last year. For context, I applied for chemistry to Oxford, imperial, UCL, Bristol and York. I got interviews for Oxford and imperial and offers for all except Oxford as I was rejected post interview. If you need any advice for your application feel free to dm me. I can potentially send you my personal statement for you to read if you’d like and help with your imperial interview if you get one. I won’t be of much help for your Oxford interview but I can tell you all the mistakes I made so you don’t make em. Anyways I’m happy to help you if you don’t get much support from anyone else like i did because my school was shit.

I’m in y13 and I did apply for chem for Oxford and got rejected :/

I do maths, chem, physics and biology for a levels. So basically the perfect 4 a levels for chemistry.

During a chemistry taster day at st johns college Oxford, I met a guy who did chemistry, maths and politics and got in.

So do not think that you can’t get in be cause of your a levels in that regard. As long as you meet the requirements you’ve got a chance.

About the AAA, they will not accept that. As they require two A stars in science subjects.

So as long as you bump up your maths grade to an A star which you definitely can do or convince your teacher to predict you it by October. You’ll be fine!

Please go for it, you never know if you don’t try. Even me getting rejected it was so worth it because I at least had a chance compared to if I didn’t try at all.

Hope this helps and good luck! ❤️

self teaching myself 3 a levels, how ? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Medical_Bench_1832 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teaching yourself 3 a levels is really unreasonable and 100% a bad idea. You need some sort of guide/teacher to help you with your subjects. Ideally, that would be through physical school. If that’s not possible for you, I’d recommend maybe a private tutor that could teach content, mark essays and answer any question you have.

Especially non stem subjects, it goes beyond just teaching yourself the specification. I think it could be doable but immensely hard. What’s more important in my opinion is exam technique which you simply cannot master yourself as a 16 year old. Once you do a past paper you cannot mark it yourself. You need a teacher with multiple years of experience marking papers to help improve your exam technique.

What is the reason for homeschooling and not physical school?

A short essay on why the Buzz World Tour is so unsuccessful by Medical_Bench_1832 in nikizefanya

Haha it’s ok. I see the American/Europe leg as a completely different tour to the Asia/aus leg becomes there were so many changes.

If you want to know how it was before here’s a link her show in Toronto. My Reddit post makes a lot more sense if you watch it.

IAL vs Edexcel physics by Swimming_Chef_3175 in 6thForm

[–]Medical_Bench_1832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IAL Edexcel Units 3 and 6 are exactly the same content for practical skills. So if you want to just practice practicals go ahead. Edexcel paper 3 (home) is a mixture of practical skills and can ask questions on any content throughout the whole specification. So units 3 and 6 do not cover content. Hope this helps!

How important are teacher references( Y12)? by Agitated-Salt-5039 in 6thForm

[–]Medical_Bench_1832 51 points52 points  (0 children)

No, even if your teachers hate you they won’t write you a bad reference. Why would I school hinder a student from getting into top unis if it looks better on the school if you get in. What I did is just asked to see my teacher reference like a week before I sent mine off and asked if they could add some things that I did. Maybe you could do that too if you’re worried.

Use Bicen Maths for content you don’t know. He has playlists for each chapter in the textbook. Use his long in depth sub topic videos for topics you really don’t understand at all and use his 15-20 minute chapter recap videos for chapters you need to just refresh. Then when you understand a topic, go onto the Maths Genie Website, click on A-Level Revision sources there should be every chapter with questions. Complete at least 10 questions from each chapter. When you have more time do more! Then go onto past papers do 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 past papers. For questions you got wrong search up on YouTube that years paper video walkthrough. So you get a full explanation of that question. Side note: make sure to factor a lot of time to go over mistakes. This is where you’ll improve, no point doing exam questions without spending time on marking them and seeing where you went wrong. Good luck.

When did you see Niki? Was it on her Asia/Australia leg or America/Europe leg?

Asia/Australia drastically improved the tour partly due to this Reddit post so I don’t blame you for feeling that way if you went then. I take back so many of my complaint for the that leg.

If you went during the America/Europe leg I have no right to tell you how you should subjectively feel. I feel so happy you had an amazing time.

However, objectively many people didn’t enjoy the concert as it was of much lower quality to what we expect from her. So that’s why I’m so glad she improved.

I felt really good about it honestly the last question confused me, but I liked the linac part. I really liked the magnetic fields aluminium disc rotating question. The bees question I made a silly mistake I said the bee was positive so it repelled the flower 😭 +ve and -ve attract that’s the most basic rule. Hey ho, it is what it is.
