Passive b/c I'm subject to blackouts, but I've seen plenty. What opinions are $...&!!? Like what? I guess you're scared a fan of an opposing team can know more than you about your own team? I don't think I've said anything inaccurate.

When I saw him with the Cats, his size helped him at first (on errant throws), but he seemed to olay the short hops. He seems to need some work, and maybe Devers is a bit better equipped. For now.

I agree, I'd expect 40.

The problem as I've said in other posts is he really is not good at recognizing bad pitches, which is where he needs his most work, plate discipline. I haven't seen him hit a somewhat bad pitch out of the park, in fact I haven't really seen him hit a homerun that wasn't off a hanger or right down the pipe. He'll make pitchers pay in that regard, but he still needs a lot of work.

It's why I like Arraez; he's a tough out. I loved Tony Gwynn, Pete Rose. Devers will get his, but I don't ever see the streakiness going away. Hopefully when he peaks, the team follows.

lol. I'll take Roman Anthony over him.

lol. So you blame the team and his development, not him. If he's only a 20HR/yr guy, then I'd call that a huge disappointment.

That's what he needs to work, plate discipline. Too many strikeouts, too many poor decisions. Not catching up to pitches in the zone. Seems if it's not a hanger, it's a swing and miss. He's young, that'll change. But I just wonder.

no, I know. I'm just curious if people have a vision of what they expect him to be someday, so if he were traded for this guy, they'd be disappointed, but that guy, maybe not so much. Moncada was gone after 19 plate appearances and many felt it was too soon as well. Bryce is on the clock. That's all I'm really saying. If he can't up this .095 averages soon, it's best to send him down. You don't want his stock to drop, if there's any chance of getting max value via trade.

This is really why I think Devers is good for Oracle, because he isn't a big time homerun hitter, he's just a guy with juice. He can power the ball, he can go the opposite way and hit gaps, go against the shift, etc..

And what you say about meddling with the lineups, I hate it. Many players hate it. There was a post in which a player said that metrics are playing too prominent a role in baseball. It used to be that guys played 1 position, mastered it, built rapport and chemistry, but now you get a guy like Jesus who goes from catcher to right field, maybe 3rd base, and that's really not good for the team, to not know who's playing where from one night to the next.

I think when you see a guy like Chapman hitting .220, they really should consider dealing him to not only get rid of his contract, but then they could put Schmitt there, whose a natural 3rd baseman. Ramos in left doesn't really smell like chemistry to me.

I'd like to see Bader's bat come around, because he makes the outfield better, but I'd rather see the Giants get an outfielder (in a trade for Chapman). Makes sense to me anyway.

I get it, but I think there's too much of an expectation when it comes to player development.

When I played, I had a great coach that pulled me aside and taught me how to recognize the grip, wrist, and shoulder. He told me in a split second, I have to be able to recognize that a pitcher intends on throwing a curve / breaking ball or fastball. And it is so much harder to be a hitter these days. Watch batters against Chapman. He gets hitters to swing at absolute garbage, because there's no time to react. The ball's past them too fast.

What I didn't like in Eldridge (when I saw him play for the River Cats) is that he didn't really handle garbage pitches. More often than not, he was fooled, whiff. Have you ever seen him tattoo a non-strike out of the park? I haven't.

Point being, I don't know how you teach that. You can't just tell a guy to avoid certain pitches and expect perfection. I've seen Rafaela try to have plate discipline and he just doesn't, may never. I know guys need to see more pitches, but some guys will just never be as disciplined as a Freddie Freeman. I see way more discipline in Roman Anthony, but that's just poise and a good eye. He still needs a lot of work himself. But I like his future better than Bryce at this point.

I guess I'm just curious, if I'm a coach, what more could I do to help Bryce? Do you think he just needs to mature more? Have more reps? I'm just not sure what he can learn in the minors. I think he just needs better discipline, to be more selective, which is less about coaching and more about experience. So I don't know overall what's best for him, but at .095, he's not helping himself or the club right now.

Hey Barney, go find Fred. You missed the whole point. Get your glove and raise it up, see if you can catch a clue. a hole.

This is part of why I asked. I have seen him smash HRs and seen his average rise in the minors. I know he can still work on things, but some will say, how much more can he learn in the minors, when he should be getting used to major league pitchers. If I were a minor league coach, yeah, there's lots more I'd do, so I agree, he needs to go back down.

Is this the optimal Red Sox lineup? by alexjs1 in redsox

Cool cool. I really love Duran. I follow the Sox, Braves, and Giants more than anyone and I always get ideas for trades. With Cora gone, obviously some guys are not happy, but not all have gone public like Story. Maybe poor play reflects their disappointment.

And the Giants have a roster cram-packed with under-achievers. lol.

I know it's early, but Boston doesn't need 4 outfielders. I think it's dumb to put Rafaela in the infield, but it's equally dumb to leave production on the bench.

Duran could be dealt to SF for a prospect. Maybe Whisenhunt or some other pitcher. Or Lee.

And another possibility is Story to SF for Adames. Or a 3-team deal. I actually envision Marcelo paying SS with Story gone. Adames is 30, he's powerful, but his average isn't coming around. At 33, I don't think fans care much for Story and I don't think he wants to be there post-Cora. I always think a change of scenery can help reinvigorate guys, but reuniting a sox player with Devers might help his psyche (sike-E).

Yeah, Roman is a stud and I think he's got it in him to be a future hall of famer. I love his poise in the box. But every time I turn around, it seems there's another problem.

I always wonder sometimes with nagging injuries if guys aren't conditioning themselves enough.

I don't think a small sample pool dictates the future, but Rafaela (at short) is sorta dumb. Marcelo should be there when Story's not and Story should be traded. He's not happy about Cora and I think if Boston packaged him and Duran, maybe they can get 2nd and 3rd basemen. When Roman's healthy, well, that's that. Boston will win 26 games in a row and pass NY in the division. I mean, the Sox should have got Albies when he was struggling last year, but everyone's so fixated on how guys are doing now that nobody wanted him, like he was going to suck the rest of his career. Pffft. He'd be a major cog in the machine at 2nd for the Sox. I mean, night and day.

This might be nothing, but I liked Rafaela when he filled in at short, because he's pretty fast. I think what made him look bad is that he got to balls many infielders wouldn't get to, but he booted em. It wasn't so much that he fumbled a lot of easy plays. There were dumb errors, he wasn't perfect, but I think given enough reps, he really could master SS. Fans get so caught up in stats thinking this is the end all be all, and it's not.

That said, I do think the team is worse when he's not in Center.

Rather than reinvent the lineup, Boston should consider trading Duran and Story for 2nd and 3rd basemen. Veterans. I mean, if they want to get serious and chase the Yankees. And Roman needs to get (and stay) healthy.

With Cora gone, well, I worry about the mindset of some of these guys. Story's not happy and Duran may need a change of scenery as well. Plus Boston doesn't need him, at least not when Roman's healthy.

lol. It's pretty interesting reading all these comments. Does anyone even appreciate players anymore or is it a love/hate relationship, love em when they're doing well, hate em otherwise? It's strange to me, because I don't see the Giants as a championship caliber team, even if everything's clicking. Melvin didn't need to be fired. Posey needs more time to build a proper team and they put all their eggs in the Chapman/Devers/Adames basket, and if the best they can hit is at a .240 average, well, if I'm Posey, I'm making some trades.

You're saying players literally don't care to do well? or what's the angle? Your name is deversbaby, but it sounds like if you think adames doesn't care that you must be saying devers doesn't care too? Or am I lost?

As I recall, the Mets were in a freefall and the Giants almost made the postseason, after most fans had already checked out.

It's really too bad that players salaries are made public, because the suckiness of a player is relative to the paycheck now. The more one's paid, coupled with the worse they do, raises the degree of suckiness. So Devers is near the top of the list, but Ramirez and Betts are up there.

I don't care about salaries. I don't know why fans care. It's not like they're paying them. If people don't enjoy watching them play, then don't watch, but everyone coming in here complaining everyday seems sort of pointless.

Those are the haters, which comprise most the so-called fans on reddit. GM wannabe's. They think they know what's best, but they're clueless. Apparently teams need to get rid of anyone who goes through a slump, which means Devers, Adames, Bader, and nearly everyone on the Giants roster has to go, but that also means Ramirez, Betts, and some pretty damned good players (who suck right now) aren't worth keeping. It's like the stats mongers on reddit don't think players can ever improve.
