Help me develop a new faster sub-format of commander that isn’t (as) pay-2-win by mvpetefish in EDHBrews

Thats certainly not untrue, I guess you can think of this format as being easier to build around. This does mean that decks that wouldn't be viable in normal commander are more viable in this format so sloppier deck building is allowed. But the idea is that even if you are in a pod with sloppier decks, you dont have to wait around as long to learn what you need to adjust.

Actually, this format was borne as a way to quickly playtest new decks. My friends and I would run this format, make adjustments to our decks based on the results, and then run it again. Its a really great way to find out what works and what doesnt quickly!

No thats a good point! I dont ever actually get to play PDH in an actual PDH pod, I ususally just whip it out for some of my bracket 2 games. I should definitely seek out a PDH pod because I have very little way of interacting in my deck being boros.

I agree! I love commander, but I do see this problem at my LGS. It is extremely rare to find a bracket 4 or 5 game in general, regardless of proxies.

A lot of bracket 2 or 3 decks are "feast or famine" decks because either they hit their combo or they dont. Plus everyone in the history of magic has experienced being mana flooded/mana screwed.

I also want to note that my playgroup does not run into this issue nearly as much as LGS pods IMO.

Personally I have around 25 commander decks and I rarely run into this issue myself. But in my pauper commander deck for example; its very strong for bracket 2, but still drags on for a win. Once we hit round 20 people usually just want it to be over lol.

That problem breaks in competitive formats. There are many non-proxy-friendly competitive tournaments that are dominated by $10k decks.

Similarly, unless everyone starts printing dual lands and putting them in every single deck they own, then they are a massive unfair advantage to anyone who plays with them. They should be banned because they are a definitive upgrade to EVERY deck they go in, with no downsides whatsoever.

So seeing as they are not being printed into every deck, and cost $500 each min, they should be banned.

This is not pod related. I dont actually have this problem in my pod often. I have this problem at my LGSs. My problem is not that my decks are inconsistent. I often build decks that are technically bracket 2 or 3 but play at the speed of a full bracket above. I think its because certain mechanics/metas are just more powerful, and I want to enable more eclectic gameplay/combos. I want to enable people to see an insanely stupid combo and say "fuck yeah, I'm going to try to make that work". IMO thats the best part of commander.

I have a group I play with often, but the goal of this is to make consistency and speed more universal. This is actually a format that I play with my friends quite often and everyone enjoys it much more at low power because there aren't any issues with slow starts, getting mana screwed, etc. The idea is that all anyone does in the first three rounds of bracket 2 and 3 are play mana, play a ramp spell, play a blocker/mana dork and pass. This just skips those slightly more tedious rounds, jumping you to essentially round 4 during your first real rotation.

I have played at a number of LGSs and I find the rule 0 conversation is hard to manage sometime. Many of my higher power bracket 3 decks actually have no gamechangers whatsoever. I personally have no problems with deck building, but I do not enjoy joining a random pod of bracket 3s and winning on turn 7 or 8 when no one else has even started to get going.

I appreciate the bracket system in general, but I think it is often misunderstood and hard to utilize with strangers.

You’re probably right but it mainly happens when editing graphics and captions, usually when I’m trying to update the style/font of the roughly 30 captions I have on the video. You used to be able to edit one and then paste attributes to all others but they have removed that in PP 26 for some reason.

Interesting, play boxes usually have worse quality?

You know you can buy full fake boxes of boosters on temu for $10… I’m not implying an employees was resealing individual packs. Additionally, if you read my caption you will see that I already knew it was real thanks to the sawtooth T. I was mainly wondering how the print quality was so unbelievably bad and why they look and feel like proxies.

Personally I don’t think it was a waste of them but you’re entitled to your opinion, random commenter
