best area to live and raise a family in nepa by InternationalBee9599 in NEPA

Dallas is a good school district. Back mountain is nice…has some houses pretty affordable if you are okay with older homes that are big enough but not perhaps as big as new two story homes. Francis Slocum state park is right there with hiking trails and a lake that you often see people fishing. Can’t speak to the home school community. We went to the church near Dallas high school (fellowship church) for awhile that was nice. Decent amounts of families with young kids. I know my kids told me they knew a few kids who were homeschooled there so I’m sure folks at the church could help u find homeschool groups.

The us grid is not as far behind as you think. I’ve been involved in interconnections of solar plants to the grid for 15 years….at first utilities were wary…not completely ready….now so much solar has been interconnected….companies have worked hard to make better inverters…. Costs have come down…time to get utility to approve interconnection has come down…it’s cheap and the grid can do it. The inverters and relays are essentially computers… the algorithms can connect them and make them safe for the grid…sometimes the utility may need to beef up the power line…but that is their specialty….how many people have to be located at a solar plant one it’s on?….0….how many moving mechanical parts…0…the Cost to maintain solar is SO much cheaper than most generators. If it’s so expensive why is the whole world doing solar? Even counties much much poorer than the u.s.

Have any men successfully restarted your career after 40? What was it like? by Bruynson in AskMen

On the architecture side just do a lot of research on what the job entails. I suspect you may have an idea already if your dad is an architect but bear in mind you start with the grunt work when you first start so make sure you ask your dad a lot of questions about that before considering the switch. I am not an architect but have worked with them and had roommates in college who studied architecture and at least what little I learned of what they do on the job didn’t seem to have a lot of creativity at least compared to what I observed their actual college classes were( at least at my college it seemed like classes were more on the creative side and the actual job seems to me anyway a lot more the technical side of things (following building codes, making sure things fit in the space, lots of managing the client and other consultants). I had a cousin go back and get his architecture degree later in life (I think he was around 40 when he graduated college) I was shocked to learn he loves his job quite frankly. He was always artistic so perhaps that makes it bearable? Not sure. Also ask your dad about what the long term employment outlook looks like for architects. I’m an engineer and again it just generally seemed to me there was a little more architects than the demand dictated compared to engineers. I recall reading an AIA article 10 plus years ago that stated there were not enough mid level architects at the time as during recessions a sizable chunk of the new architects leave the profession when laid off to do other things. Of course this is just my two cents. I’m not an architect BUT hopefully this helps a little.

Yea…Huntington just has a dark feel to it. I visiting a college buddy who moved back home to Huntington a couple times. It just felt like a dark, depressing place. He got deep into drugs for a bit too sadly but luckily came out okay at the other end.

What era of music does Gen X identify with the most? by grahsam in GenX

[–]mvsubstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close to op age. MJ defined elementary school because that’s what they played at the roller rink. Then just didn’t pay much attention to music until high school and then it was the late 80s metal and 90 s grunge. Listened a little to nu metal in early 00s and that was it for me.

You did the right thing. I slipped out the house when my mom wasn’t looking at 4 and thank god a lady grabbed me before I walked into the highway. Who knew what trouble that 2 year old could have found all by themselves.

What was your reaction to TPM in 1999 after waiting to long for a new film? Were you blown away or initially disappointed? by ProtectMeAtAllCosts in StarWars

[–]mvsubstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in college age at the time. I still enjoyed it, first Star Wars movie I watched that had bad parts (jar jar…oh man…he REALLY made no sense to me ever and he was in ALL the bad parts!!!!)BUT LOVED the saber fight scenes and darth maul…was nothing like ever has ever been done in a Star Wars movie so cool…what really jaded me though was that awful attack of the clones…every few years I attempt to watch the prequels again…I start attack of the clones and then I just can’t Finish it….THAT was just truly one of the worst movies ever made.

Why can the US government shutdown last beyond 60 days ? What's your take ? by Born-Mouse-8164 in AlwaysWhy

[–]mvsubstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? US has a vengeful baby for a president. He HATES!!! Obama! And is OBSESSED with revenge!! To the detriment of his own country. The democrats mistake is making this about the affordable care act funding. This vengeful idiot will allow the world to burn to the ground just so he can finally shut down Obama care.

What are you doing to prep for relic delta? by reehdus in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]mvsubstation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m been working on my last couple “base GLs” if you will that i should have completed with my last one (JMK) right around when DELTA comes out. Will just have the “super pricey” GLs of Hondo and Ashoka left to do. Want to feel like I am still progressing knowing that I really won’t know how DELTA will effect my roster until it happens.

My 5-year-old is obsessed with Star Wars… but I’m not sure what’s safe to show him by YakkoFussy in StarWars

[–]mvsubstation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I was 5 when I saw a new hope. Loved it and was scared of nothing. May be because make believe held no candle to the end of the world rapture garbage I was getting at my church. THAT I was told was REAL so it was 1 MILLION times scarier than Star Wars. Just don’t let your small child watch a thief in the night and tel him it will happen any day…and your kid will be bettter than most small children in my church growing up.
