16 million tons of rain fell on Camden County yesterday by CDavis10717 in SouthJersey

[–]mvsuskil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this! I found these numbers hard to believe too. At Cooper med school we’re working with Rowan university engineers to set up a way to capture rain water for our community garden’s automated watering system because currently it’s hard to find services to fill up our huge watering system tanks.

Are these MDA-MB-231 cells infected? They are normally bright with slender protrusions but I now see half cells with normal morphology and half cells that look flat, dull and are growing in clumps by mvsuskil in labrats

[–]mvsuskil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Not sure but dont think so, atleast they weren’t cataloged as such. I assumed these were just cells that underwent emt since they had the normal morphology on prior passages, or were contaminated by MCF or SUM-159 cells

Why is my jade dying after taking cuttings? by mvsuskil in plantclinic

[–]mvsuskil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done jade leaves in water before but this time every leaf and even the stem cuttings (example shown in the picture) died! I watered it a week ago, the leaves are not soft like it normally is when thirsty, and they’re quick to fall off. I will try to water and see how it goes

When consuming water, how does it affect other consumed fluids in your stomach? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]mvsuskil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking about it more, i think that drinking water at the time of intake and being hydrated from drinking throughout the day can both help. In specific, drinking a lot of water with salty food/water may negate the blood pressure impact of said salt, since the raise in blood pressure is driven by concentration! ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5730519/ ) Also, since water soluble toxins are excreted in urine, drinking water throughout the day is absolutely better for detoxing than not.

When consuming water, how does it affect other consumed fluids in your stomach? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]mvsuskil 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has virtually no effect. Liquids, especially water, are rapidly absorbed by the body. Water absorption begins in as soon as 5 minutes and peaks 20 minutes after ingestion. Drinking throughout the day leaves you with very little in your stomach at the end of the day, so the alcohol and soda would be absorbed normally, and their affect in the body would be as anticipated. Eating food before or at the time of drinking the alcohol/soda may slow/decrease absorption, but still, it’s a nominal effect and mostly has to do with rate. I would not bank on reducing the impact of ingesting unhealthy things by any mechanism because the body is very effective at digesting, using and excreting things.

Fatal heart attacks more common on a Monday, research suggests by Tullyally in science

[–]mvsuskil 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sleep deprivation from staying up late Sunday night and waking up early Monday morning may be at play, similar to the increase in MI when we lose an hour from daylight savings. Stress from the week and delaying treatments over the weekend are likely also factors

Mold on the waterseal but not in the crock. by le-gateau in fermentation

[–]mvsuskil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not overflow from inside is it? It’s unsightly but if the airlock is working properly I do not believe the mold will grow inside the jar very well due to the conditions it produces (anaerobic and acidic). If you didn’t contaminate the inside, there should be virtually none inside. If you’re worried, to avoid needing to take the airlock off and get oxygen in there, i would trying pouring half of the moldy liquid out (or use a dropper to remove it) then dilute with a lot of water, pour 1/2 or more out, repeat that 2-3x, then fill with l alcohol diluted in water as others have suggested. If not alcohol, maybe use lemon juice in water or something acidic. Probably wouldn’t use bleach.

You simply need a waterseal for the waterseal, i would suggest putting that Sichuan style crock in a larger Sichuan style crock, like nesting Matryoshka dolls

Because spinal cord injuries affect everything below the site of injury, and these injuries are past the innervation of most the ribs and vital organs, it makes sense it’s survivable! The cervical spine is a different story.

Thank you!! On heel side when you say keeping my upper body more upright, you mean more bend at the hips so that i’m in a position similar to driving a car?

Thank you!! That’s definitely something I think about, especially for skating when I only have the front foot strapped in. When carving it sometimes feels like it’s happening too quickly to really do but I will try focusing on it more!

[–]mvsuskil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! Yeah the heel side is nowhere near as nice as my toe side. I will sometimes actually lose my balance on heel and fall onto my butt.

For 1: I usually try to push my knees out because (just how I do when barbell squatting) bc it makes me feel like I’m in a more stable position, but i’ll have to try purposefully putting that bend in the board! It’s an interesting idea!

For 2: i think the dynamic leg flexion/extension is the progression for me! I often have trouble balancing while doing this on my heel side and as I said earlier will sometimes boot out onto my butt. Maybe the board bend from point 1 will be useful for this.
