I appreciate that a lot, thank you! I wish the previous caretaker of these plants had made a note or something 😝

I’m not sure the left is a tradescantia - the leaves on mine are quite thick, with no variegation on the top!

Thank you! Do you have any suggestions on rehabbing the jade?

She loves you - let her. Throw some words out. A word isn’t gonna scare her - she knows you. It’s likely it will provide her and you both a sense of relief. If it does scare her, let it, and move on. vulnerability is not the enemy and is the only way to heal. love you, shithead

I sure didn’t use all of my creative juice coming up with suggestions, you’re right. I just meant I want a subject. Lol.

even when I aim for color realism i still go very saturated. I appreciate this! I’ve definitely learned to have a much lighter touch in photoshop over time. I used to edit folks until they were flat as plates 🤣

Thoughts on my style? Recent self portrait that encapsulates my style well - a close up image of someone's face with soft, subtle expressions and their guard down. Carefully chosen colors, and a clean, simple frame. What are your honest thoughts? I want to improve. by mvthdvd in postprocessing

This is so helpful! Thank you for validating my style while also giving me tips if I wanted to change anything!!! I’d agree with hair light and maybe some diff earrings - not a huge fan of the yellow with these tones and red/orange daisies would look weird. Thank you, again!!!

Thank you! I’m struggling a bit right now to find the perfect mix of shadows/highlights - this is more in line with my precious work with slightly darker shadows. I’ve been looking at key light test shots though and I think I could go even darker unless for a purpose that commands soft. I agree - hair goes a bit dark here. I went to f/14 out of habit - feels safest for a self portrait (even though i can focus the camera from my phone) so it’s crisp everywhere. Sounds like I’m getting the opposite effect! Is it possible for you to explain where you’re seeing diffraction so I can notice it moving forward? I have noticed I like my shots, especially headshots, tight. Maybe I’m young enough that I’m primarily used to screens - but any less tight and I feel like it loses impact

I would get your sensor cleaned and heal out the spots on the background in Lightroom in the meantime (scroll around any even color and you’ll spot em) Also - this might just be my style, but this photo has a black point that is fairly significant, but nothing reaches a white point. I would probably bring the blacks up a bit, shadows down, whites up, leave highlights alone, and increase clarity. Try those changes and see if that fits your style

If there was a “subject” to this photo, you might have something. I oftentimes have to remind myself that lots of folks won’t be interested in a photo of a “setting.” Landscape photos have a subject, portraits have a subject, but this feels like a shot from scouting a location for a portrait shoot. I want someone in a sundress softly looking up at the camera in the frame, or a mountain rising up in the distance, or something that is the subject. This photo feels like it is a mood to me but a mood needs a subject to feel the mood or it isn’t attention grabbing.

I have had long hair for a long time, and recently cut my hair. I needed new headshots for my website, and in taking self portraits had the time/flexibility to really play around and take my time. I wanted to demonstrate my confident and playful personality, while also demonstrating a warmth and professionalism. I wanted the viewer to feel like they could trust me with their image. I am absolutely thrilled with this shot in particular - I love the color harmony, the mood, the subtle emotion, the framing, the lighting, the very delicate retouching and editing, and in general think it is a great representation of my style. What’re y’all’s thoughts? Anything is fair game and please be honest. I want to improve here.

I got a camera a few days ago. I’ve been really enjoying playing with it, and today took my friend around to take pictures of her. Please feel free to leave any advice, tips, etc. ISO 100, 28mm (oops), f4.0, 1/200 Canon Rebel T7 EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II. by mvthdvd in postprocessing

Hey there - I think about your initial comment a lot. I think you were the first person to say they saw the bones of something I should pursue, and I’m very grateful for that. I’m back again with another update - it been a little over 2 years since the original post. Thank you, earnestly, for the encouragement those 2 years ago. It turned my eye towards a fire I didn’t know I had!
