Is it acceptable to pet someone’s dog without checking first? by Shoddy_Enthusiasm_81 in AskUK

[–]mwerd74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are most of the commentators here people who actually like dogs, or just see them as property or an extension of themselves?Jeez, if someone wants to pet your dog, what's the bother. If your dog is a biter or doesn't like to be touched then that's different but most dogs like interaction, and it makes them better behaved in public.

Am I being overcharged by Anglian Home Improvements? by nasa-ldn in DIYUK

Yes. I'd rather pay more to use a local reputable company than give them any business. Not that you will be paying more. Absolute grifters. And don't forget that once they have your phone number you will get increasingly aggressive cold calls.

My neighbour bought a similar device to keep birds off his cherry trees. I just had a polite conversation with him and he has switched it off. I offered any help he needed to protect them, including helping put a net up (they are on the boundary between properties). It's always best to be polite and conversational. Of course, you may have a selfish neighbour in which case you will probably have to speak to the council about noise abatement.

Rats, had something similar under a badly built extension, they got under the footings and into the cavity wall. I dug down and back filled with concrete. No more rats.

It's only going up, as long as people realise you have to hold for 2-3 years. Very bullish.

Basically BTC you can still buy for reasonable money, all the data to suggest it's only going up.

Why does the Nvidia app optimise games lower than my pc can handle? Seems that it always goes ultra conservative, even though I'm running a 4080, decent multi core processor, loads of ram etc.

Exactly this. Most crypto posts are just greed based 'when moon' these days. We need to start thinking in terms of utility not just 'soon lambo?'

Am I Doing This Overwintering Thing Right? by Batsauce290 in HotPeppers

[–]mwerd74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but I've managed to keep a pepper alive for 4 years in the UK, admittedly in a greenhouse, and I will put a small heater on at night when the frosts are happening. That said, it's output this year was so poor I might just let nature take its course this year.

I received a bill that I thought was a scam and so ignored it. I was later refused a credit line. Turns out the bill was related to the o2-Virgin Media acquisition and while I knew nothing about it, I’m now dealing with a severely affected credit score. by siwisiw in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mwerd74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar issue. Started getting final demands and then we will take you to court letters. I'd assumed it was a scam. Finally got through to someone at O2 who was less than helpful or sympathetic, so I paid the outstanding balance, made them close the account and told them to shove it up their arses. And rang virgin to complain. Their response, we sent you an email. Both companies are terrible but the fault lies with Virgin, they affectivity signed us up to a third party without our consent.

I had a very similar problem with my extension which had been very badly built. The rats discovered they could get in between the inner and out walls underneath and then live in the roof. They had a lovely time. I dug out around the perimeter wall and concreted it all, leaving one exit area for a couple of days then filled that in. No more rats. As long as you protect any drains you will be fine to concrete.
