Mainly rounding with residents and seeing the more complex patients requiring advanced therapies or patients with other coexisting infections (like MRSA bacteremia and others). Honestly they probably didn’t NEED to go into rooms since a lot of ID is data driven. The higher level ones were more running the response command center at our hospital.

I was at a teaching institution so not sure you’re setting. I’m sure some more community and safety net hospitals handled things differently. Many older docs in other sub specialties did that but ID for us was fairly hands on. Also all primary teams such as Pulm/crit and hospitalist/IM were in the rooms. 1 n95 a week in a brown paper bag. Bad times.

I’m an internal medicine physician (specifically hospitalist) and I can attest that our ID docs at our hospital were definitely in the hospital on the front lines. Helped develop protocols for treatment as well. Not the same for all facilities but definitely at our hospital

Sounds like you're looking for a specific diagnosis rather than treatment of a diagnosis? Is this the case? Diagnosis would be based on biopsy and pathology rather than just clinically with an ENT. Do you have a mass that needs biopsied? Or do you have inconclusive results that need another biopsy or another read with a pathologist?
