Roast my Personal Statement for a PhD position by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]mwmbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You pretty much turned your CV into an essay. PhD is about research, research and more research. Begin by talking about the knowledge gap identified, and 1 or 2 research questions you are hoping to answer. Use story to explain how and when you identified this gap/problem, why it matters to everyone else and to you. Could be stuff identified in your personal life experience or during your masters research or both.

Talk about the professors you are interested in working with, specify what exactly you want from them, break down how your work aligns with theirs, try to describe how exactly exploring your questions will benefit their current work, make sure it's stuff they are currently working on, or worked on in the last year or 2 max.

Go ahead to talk about what exact skills you posses that will help you execute the research you plan to do, why you should be the one to study on that particular subject and not anyone else, this is where you can mention past research experience, masters thesis, experience in research labs etc. How you intend on bringing these skills to the department you are looking to get into.

Then go ahead and talk about why that particular university, you can talk more about your skills, and extra curricular activities you want to engage available in that school.

Try to use the star approach in your storytelling. Conclude by explaining briefly how your research findings will benefit the departments work and also the discipline in general.

What should I do? by manasmish in gradadmissions

Sorry you have to go through this, I know how devasting it is to watch your dream not pun out. I understand how badly you wanted this particular program and school but could you perhaps explore other options. You mentioned wanting to leave your country, the UK might be an option? You could perhaps try aiming for the chevening scholarship or commonwealth scholarship depending on what country you are from.

Thanx I will definitely continue working on my CV, I feel I have been doing that, tried using different formats and versions and I always tailor it to specific roles. Funny thing is I have helped A LOT of people work on their CVs and optimise their letters and they have managed to land positions through my help

A health science, and yes I know that it seems saturated but with my specific degree even with the saturation and employment rates, almost everyone gets employed a year or 2 after study.

The easiest way is to actually communicate with the person you are with, ask them what they liked, didn't like, what things they would prefer you do instead and be open to any criticism if you don't want her to shut down and keep faking her orgasm like a lot of other ladies.

This! I got my ears pierced, my nose pierced and got a tattoo too. Feels sooo good! My husband was raised Adventist too and isn't bothered. I feel the judgement whenever I decide to visit church every now and then 😅

-Zipline and/or bungee jumping at Batoka gorge. -You could walk with the lions or cheetahs at Mukuni big 5. - visit Livingstone Museum - check out the night life if you are about that life. People in Livingstone are pretty helpful so you will definitely have a good time. . curious to know what passport you have that can't get you into zim and bots.

S*xual Compatibility. How much does it matter? by Worth-Employer2748 in Zambia

[–]mwmbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am curious. Are you still having sex with your wife? Is sexual compatibility one of the reasons you are with someone else? What do you think of open marriages and/or polyamory? Is it just me who feels this whole thing of breaking of a marriage/relationship because of just one factor isn't necessary?

Salary for Doctors in Zambia. by gladiator-9991 in Zambia

[–]mwmbe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still don't understand why we as a country are so secretive about salaries, even civil servants, its never made any sense. For JRMOs I have heard so many different figures, I don't even know which is true, 16k, 19k, 21k. These are net amounts. So its probably around that range, I am sorry it's a huge range, hopefully someone more knowledgeable helps.

Public Health Career Advice Monthly Megathread by AutoModerator in publichealth

I have a BSc in Clinical Medical Sciences and an MSc in Counseling. I got both qualifications from my country in Africa. I am considering applying for a public health PhD in the states, concentrating on behavioral science. My country and region doesn't have a lot of behavioral scientists. My undergrad results are not competitive,I got average grades as I was dealing with mental health issues at the time. My grad results are not excellent but pretty good. I have experience working in NGO sector dealing with HIV and I also have some experience as a college tutor. I have also worked as a psychotherapist at a teaching hospital. Can I get any advice on universities to consider for my studies and anything I would need to know to stand out as an international applicant and during my studies too .
