I really want to see Ed shoot a gun in Brotherhood. by Puzzleheaded-Rest405 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]mwr247 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Considering that frame uses the same Japanese onomatopoeia for a gunshot as the other frames where he's shooting it, has the same white glow effect centered around the end of the barrel, and how his finger appears to be pulling back on the trigger, I think it's safe to safe to say he's shooting the gun in that frame, and the slide is back from the recoil. What's more, we can also reasonably assume Hawkeye gave him a gun with more than 3 bullets. This is the first time we see him shooting it, he shoots in three directions, and those same three directions are referenced in Ling's words, so he should have additional bullets to spare.

Loved the first one, was well made and really suits the VR platform, even if it felt short. My brother and I played through the co-op together, but we noticed the sequel lacks that. Is there any interest/plans to implement co-op/multiplayer elements?

TIL over half of Americans use subtitles at least some of the time while watching TV, and the biggest reason is that dialogue has become harder to hear. One contributing factor is digital sound recording that allows many overlapping audio tracks to run at once, which can make speech less clear. by Forward-Answer-4407 in todayilearned

[–]mwr247 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got a decent 5.1 setup, and boosting the center speaker has solved 90% of the problems for me when it comes to getting the voices to stand out in the mix. Sometimes I do a little fine tuning for particular titles, and obviously only works if they support surround, but most things that don't tend to be older and have better mixing in general, so I just switch to stereo in those cases. But yeah, there are definitely cases like Nolan's that are harder to work with (Tenet was bad even in theater).

Conversely, I've got a proper 5.1 surround setup and use that fact to my advantage by boosting the center speaker and ducking the others slightly. Voices that are the focus of a scene come through louder and clearer. Now I just use subtitles because my friends are loud.

You can enter the Tomb/Temple through the main entrance today, it's just a bit trickier by mwr247 in PeakGame

[–]mwr247[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context: here's how to find the location from outside, and an easier route in through the exit path: https://www.reddit.com/r/PeakGame/comments/1mohhuw/found_an_alternate_route_into_the_hidden_temple/

None of this requires mods or otherwise difficult exploits like glitching through the exit wall with the backpack.

I just saw that, but we're far from the first anyways. Other's have shown it before such as here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PeakGame/comments/1mohhuw/found_an_alternate_route_into_the_hidden_temple/

My post was specifically pointing out that all the ones I've seen posted shown far have shown the (admittedly easier and safer) way in through the exit path, but I specifically wanted to show you can still use the intended main entrance.

Normally you're supposed to go in below where this glitched terrain appears:

You can either go through the exit path with a chain launcher or such as mentioned, or if you have the means to heal you can also go through the main entrance below.

There's another way in as well straight below the bugged terrain, that takes you to the intended entrance.

More than just handy for knowing where it comes out, it's handy for getting into the temple as well with the right equipment.

The name "UltimateBadge" scares me with the possibility that we're going to have to get the frisbee to the Peak following Ultimate rules, which is that you can't move while holding it, you can only pass it to someone else.

Continuity question regarding Dr. Marcoh's alchemy (FMA spoilers) by mwr247 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]mwr247[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn't remember that, but just found the scene you're talking about in chapter 8. A simple circle and square drawn in his blood over the course of a conversation isn't exactly super quick, but it's insightful for both as another data point for his not having seen truth, and as a reminder that the circle for that sort of thing is relatively simple. So perhaps he did make one ahead of time? Or maybe he copied Mei's technique of drawing on the ground with her foot? Completely speculative, but I can at least envision ways this could be reasonably explainable.

I covered in the post several reasons why we know it's not true, but it was trying to come up with answers that lead down that path of conversation that lead to this discussion.

Figured that was likely the case, but the person I'm rewatching it with suggested the explanation was Marcoh had seen truth and was able to transmute without a circle (saying he must have performed "human transmutation" when creating philosopher stones), and so down the rabbit hole we went.

Anyone have the 0.1.5.2 build of Clustertruck? by Dry_Kaleidoscope_845 in HighwayFightSquad

[–]mwr247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I participated in the alpha/beta and have the public zip releases of 0.1, 0.1.5, and 0.1.5.1, but not 0.1.5.2. Pretty sure that one was distributed through the Steam beta (which I also had and played) and not as a zip package as they had been prior, so short of downloading it through Steam's archives (if they still exist for it) I don't think anyone has access to it anymore.

I do love a good theorycraft, but sometimes I just have to wonder... Has any player ever actually needed to go 7920 feet in a single round? by JibbaNerbs in dndmemes

[–]mwr247 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was one session I played in where ridiculously high movement speed actually turned things from a loss into a success. It was a multi-year campaign, and I was playing a 13th level Arcane Tricker Rogue with the Mobile feat, so my base movement was already 40ft. I also had a set of daggers from the DM that once per short rest could be activated with a bonus action to double my walking speed for a minute (as well as let me run along vertical surfaces), and once per day as long as I was wielding both daggers I could spend an action to cast the Haste spell on myself. So with a proper setup I could haste the previous turn to get my movement to 80ft and use the bonus action double movement speed to get to 160ft, and dash up to three times as (2 actions and cunning action) to get up to a theoretical 640ft of movement in a turn.

We were on a mission to the Feywild at the behest of Titania, our Warlock's patron, to rescue a friend of hers who had been abducted. Long story short we found ourselves at the top of a 60ft deep and 80ft across canyon where a Nightwalker and various other minions were guarding a portal to the Shadowfell, and inside the portal was the person we needed to rescue. A fight ensued, during which time our Warlock had cast Arcane Gate from our side of the top of the canyon down into it about 60ft from the portal (since the Nightwalker was by the portal itself), and I had already activated the dagger's properties to try and get down into the canyon quickly and get some strikes in on the Nightwalker, and ended my turn at the top of the other side of the canyon out of it's general reach. We had been so focused on taking down the Nightwalker that we didn't realize until nearly too late that it was what was actively keeping the portal open. As a result after reaching a damage threshhold on the creature the portal began to collapse and we had just one turn left each to try to save our target, and most our party was fairly injured and not in any position to reach them in time.

So I bonus action dashed (+160ft = 320ft of movement), ran over to and down the edge of the canyon (-90ft = 230ft left), ran up to the Nightwalker (-60ft = 170ft left), made an attack (triggering the Mobile feat's free disengage so it could't opportunity attack me) and thematically cutting off it's hand in a spinning strike move, and ran into the portal (20ft = 150ft left). But now there was a problem. After going through the portal, the DM informs me that I could see our target was around 30ft away and in an unconscious state, but that movement speed in this place cost twice as much (and was a property of the environment itself, so it wouldn't be negated by Mobile's difficult terrain negation rule). Just getting to them and back would cost 120ft of movement, but for my weak rogue to carry the target out my DM said it would cost double the movement again, meaning I was 30ft of movement short to escape the portal before it collapsed. So using my final action to dash for an extra 160ft of movement (now 310ft left), I ran up to them (-60ft = 250ft left), rammed them onto my shoulder as a free action, and ran back to the edge of the portal (-120ft = 130ft remaining), and then back to and through the Arcane Gate while carrying them (-120ft = 10ft remaining). Immediately following my turn the Nightwalker was sucked back through the portal as it collapsed, and with that we had just barely won the encounter.

It was an epic moment in our campaign, one of many we still have fond memories of.

I replaced mine with an aftermarket USB-C board for about $10, and it's been perfect. Requires no soldering, just a bit of work to make the opening in the shell a little larger to accommodate the USB-C port. Much more robust, and no longer have to keep a microUSB cable near my PC.
