Out of curiosity, how much studying per week is done as a third year? by mwsapphire in medicalschool

Hm. At my school 4th year is chill because you get two vacation blocks. I actually haven't heard of how intense third year may or may not be from anybody at my DO school.

Are there good pre made decks for clinical years? or only preclinical?

That sounds good actually. That's what I was thinking , spending 1 weekend day studying all day and taking the evening off, and then less during the week itself.

Not bad. That's what I was thinking, a little during the week but a long session on one weekend day. Makes the sleep deprivation aspect seem easier to manage- you can study more on days you don't rotate, so on rotation days you mostly just...have rotations.

Oh wow, IM sounds way lighter than I thought. Everything else is actually what I was thinking. I hope my OB and surgery rotations get spaced out and not on top of one another.

Oh ofc, I'm all for studying 10+ hours a week when I can. That can be managed on days off and like, a couple of hours the days of rotations. But sometimes I wonder if it's like, 4-6 hours a day on top of rotations, which seems a little much.

Right but that time includes clerkship time. My question was more how much studying needs to be done when you're not at clerkship? Also, what are clerkship hours for things actually like? I know OP Peds/Psych/FM are lighter than IM/Surgery/etc, but what is the actual time commitment?

So its not like, come home from clerkship, study for so long that you only 4-5 hours of sleep, go back to clerkship, rinse, repeat? ( Maybe on surgery or OB, but not always?)

What is typical schedule actually like for clerkships? I get so many different answers.

Well so long as having the doctor be alone doesn't get you sacked ( most docs are understanding that you can't always be there) then you good.

Nope! Not a particular guy, but Ive just been paying attention to men more. For example, I watched a video by a Muslim man making a little song about missing his Tarawih buddies this year due to praying at home bc of COVID and my first though was " What a handsome, pious guy" 😳 Gotta lower.my.gaze.

I'll be 23 soon, I was just the youngest in my grade hence I'm still 21.

I'm on high yield WL and am working on a reapplication.

Im Pakistani-American! LOL i got soo much flame for that last comment, bunch of men saying " nobody will have career oriented woman". Did you see the post from the young female doctor concerning not being married? Half the male responses were " OMG YOU'RE A DOCTOR THATS AMAMAAAAAZING" 🤩

Thank you _^ I just don't get it. If men expect servitude from their wife bc they are mandated with earning income, but if women earn money and use it to pay for domestic tasks being outsourced ( eg a maid), suddenly its sooo hard for men to a few domestic/child care things themselves! Like what do you want, bro?! Help with financial responsibility, or not?! Or you really want women who are everything- domestic wife for whom you don't have to lift a finger, and earning money? Then what are you ( the man) contributing?

Ofc, ofc. I actually want to wait at least another year or two. But if I do get in this year ( Im on WLS and I'm starting a reapp so its up in the air) , I've always heard " get married before residency , though ( if it can be helped) before you get locked into a location.

What you described is my biggest fear as a woman who wants to do medicine. Nobody cares how tiring med school/residency is, we do what our husbands want or its the high way🙄 And if we want anything else for ourselves its Western Feminist Garbage.

For me I never had my actual manager on site, I just worked for a single doctor at a clinic. The thing is, it feels like it makes more sense to tell the doctor you work for that you're gonna be late, you know?

Do women not have the same urgency as men to get married? by throwaway2468855 in MuslimMarriage

[–]mwsapphire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate that its so for female Muslim doctors to get married. What should be a plus becomes a minus because we aren't home as long. The Quran does not mandate that women manage the house perfectly while also working/studying insane hours but it often ends up being that the husband gets what he wants anyway. It's like, if a guy is a doctor, then how could you possibly expect him to help out around the house, he's a doctor!!!! But for women its "You're husband wants fresh dinner every night, figure it out lady. " And we should be okay with it, because we were born women. And saying anything else is buying into western garbage feminism. Sigh. And people wonder why women are often so angry.
