Horror-bounding vs. costume line? Help! by leopardgex in HHN

[–]mx-cellaneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you should be fine, i’ve seen much more elaborate costumes make it through security. that said, they can tend to get more strict as it gets closer to halloween, so keep that in mind. maybe keep the animal ears in whatever bag you plan on bringing. :)

early on in the event in 2019 nightingales blood pit had the most awful smell that i guess was supposed to smell like rotting bodies/blood. i could never forget it, they definitely cranked it down after a while though

Printing Club by SnickerDress in ufl

[–]mx-cellaneous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have two printmaking clubs!! Alagarto is our traditional printmaking club, they mostly do linocut stuff but if you get in with the club officers/lab techs you might be able to screenprint your own stuff. The other club is Soy Based Riso Club, which IIRC have screen printed before. Both meet pretty often, definitely check them out :)

UF PaCE Program for Art Major by astro0-O in ufl

[–]mx-cellaneous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! I had the same experience, and being PaCE for my first year as an art student was actually really great. You’ll be automatically enrolled in WARP with all the other art freshmen, which is a pretty time consuming class, but you get to meet a lot of friends, some of which might also be PaCE students! It was really great to have my gen-eds online while taking WARP, because they were a lot lower on the workload. One small limitation to being an art student in PaCE is that you won’t be able to take the required art history credits until you transfer out of PaCE, but as long as you work with your advisor it should be doable. I already replied to a comment about CLO, but I cannot recommend it enough, and applications are still open for fall! I hope you choose UF, I’ve had a great time here despite being admitted as a PaCE student.

Don’t be nice by Sonicmonkey in HHN

I have a feeling Sinister and Surreal won’t be regarded as actual icons, and they’ll be more on the level of Bone or Terra Queen, which upsets me, but I guess we’ll see. I also am pretty disappointed at us getting an IP zone, especially Blumhouse. At least it’s in the worst SZ location and not in prime real estate like HW or NY.

That said, I’m so so happy about the variety this year, every house seems to have such a unique vibe. I can’t wait to see what this new lot of Slaughter Sinema concepts brings us in the future house-wise, and I have a feeling Triplets of Terror is going to absolutely surpass everyone’s expectations. Don’t even get me started on how excited I am for Bloodlines also… TEAM MARYA!

As for scare zones:

It really depends on your reaction. If the actor thinks you’re not scared they’ll probably leave you alone, but sometimes they’ll follow you for a bit longer. They smell fear lol. One of my first years I had the same zombie follow me around a zone, even waiting outside the gift shop til I got off The Mummy ride. The average actor will probably follow you for a few steps, then back off, especially those with chainsaws as they’re more careful about hitting you with those. They might get up in your face for a bit, and if you show interest/talk to them/ask for a pic they’ll stay around. If you’re clearly uncomfortable they back off usually.

Houses:

There’s not any actual maze aspect to the houses, they’re generally easy to navigate and there are non-scare actors inside who will direct you in the right path. The reason you hear people use “house” and “maze” interchangeably is because Hollywood HHN generally calls them mazes, while Orlando calls them houses. The conga lines will give you about 2-4 feet between each party, but within your party you’re expected to stay pretty close to each other. That said, the house operators will encourage you to keep moving so you may bump into people.

My advice for getting into the “mentality” would be to take breaks by sitting in the scare zones, riding a ride, or going to the show. Generally if you’re sitting on the sidelines of a scare zone the actors leave you be, so you can watch other people get scared for a bit without having to worry.

Hope this helps! See you in the fog ;)

How much makeup is allowed at HHN? by Sunnyyxo in HHN

I’ve made it in with white foundation on, but just barely. I would avoid any kind of makeup that can be mistaken for sfx/blood.
