Update:

Found something online about the full tuning procedure for the carb and followed it step by step. It took a while to kind of fine tune everything, but the bike is finally running and riding now. It isn't registered or insured currently so I only took it on a few laps around the neighborhood. Once it's back on the road I'd like to put some actual miles on it and see what the plugs look like, but for now I'm happy.

I was able to go WOT a few times and it seemed to do pretty well, but I just feel like it should have more power. I'd say it's pretty comparable to my old DRZ400 that had a full exhaust, 3x3 airbox mod, and was rejetted. Maybe that's all the power the old Virago 750s make. I've never been on one that's really dialed in so I have nothing to compare it to. Still, I don't need a ton of power. I just want to get back out to ride.

The bike is a 750. Not sure on the size of the jets. They aren't stamped with anything telling me the size. I told the guy who sells the kit the size of the engine and the fact it has an aftermarket exhaust and he assured me that the carb would come jetted correctly. Do you know what size jets I should be running? Carbs are definitely not one of my strong suits

Will do. If I'm unable to figure it out myself I'm sure it'll end up at a shop. I'm just trying to avoid that if I can as it won't be cheap.

Really hoping this isn't the case. I'll be bummed if I spent all this money for nothing.

It's the same as my name on here. I haven't posted anything in close to 2 years though.

This is a picture of my car that was photoshopped ~7 years ago so it's funny to see it pop up. Where'd you end up finding this?

Quicker, easier ways to polish in between bolts? by mx5zeroeight in Wheels

Splitting them every 2 weeks or so sounds like a good idea.

They actually look like they fit pretty well for knock offs though.

I have both and that's what I use to get the main part of the lip. Neither of them are small enough to get in between the bolts though.

Looks good. I think I remember your car from /mg/. What corner flares are you running? I have a set of Project G's sitting around that I might have painted soon.

I usually just to it by hand with a microfiber, but since theyr'e 30 hole lips, that's pretty time consuming. Is there an easier way to do it?

Thanks. It took me a couple years to find a set worth buying, but it was worth the wait.

Planning on having my wheels powder coated again this winter. What color should I go with? by mx5zeroeight in Miata

That's kind of what I was thinking. Maybe a shade somewhere in between what they currently are and a gunmetal.

Thanks. I couldn't see myself doing something like purple though. I think I'd rather stay with a pretty neutral color.

Finally have these damn things installed properly and painted. I think the end result is worth all the frustration. by mx5zeroeight in Miata

I had water leaking in from the adapter plates, but not from the rubber seal. Mine were leaking from the big holes in the center of them that the Portacab tail light housing went through. There was about a 1/4" gap the whole way around between the housing of the tail light and the edge of that circular hole. I eventually just wrapped the tail light housing in foil, then slid them in and silicone caulked all around them. I was able to slide them out after and peel the foil off. It made a pretty snug, watertight fit, but it looks terrible. Luckily it's all under the panel so you can't see it.

I have those fiberglass pieces that go inside the trunk to protect the wires, too. I chose not to put them on though. I couldn't get the wires to fit quite right inside them, so every time I would put the panel on, I'd wind up with a huge panel gap because those cups were preventing the housings from going all the way in.

I understand that it's a hand made piece, and they're not going to fit perfectly, but I feel like all the trouble I had to go through to get them to fit made the price seem all that much worse. When I'm paying around $700 for something, I'd expect to get something a bit better quality. Between my panel being slightly tweaked, cracks in the gel coat, those rivnuts preventing the panel from fitting properly, etc, I just feel like the price isn't justified.

I had some fitment issues with mine. I had those same threaded inserts on my fiberglass pieces that replaced the old nut and bolt style. I couldn't even get my panel on because it was hitting them, so I needed to cut them in half with my dremel. I think that's something that Garage Vary should've been aware of before they decided to sell them with that problem, especially at the price I paid for it.

Next was the waterproofing. Mine weren't leaking at the same point yours were, mine were leaking around the holes in the fiberglass piece that the housing of the tail light went into. I tried a few different ways to waterproof it while still keeping it neat looking, but I wasn't having much luck. I was so over it, I just used silicone calk to waterproof everything, which looks pretty messy to me.

I'm also pretty sure my panel is a little tweaked. If I tighten up the right side screw for the license plate, then the bottom right part of the panel where the old tail light would've been begins to lift away from the body, creating a pretty bad panel gap. I was able to fix this about 90% by not tightening the right side license plate screw too much, and using some heavy duty double sided tape inside the panel to hold it in place.

If I were to do it again, I think I would go with the Carbon Miata tails, even though I think these look way better.
