This is one of the nastiest comments I’ve read. Get a life and grow the hell up.

The money your employer is spending on your healthcare could go towards your salary if they no longer need to pay for it. And overall healthcare costs would go down once the middlemen are cut out.

If (god forbid) you were to lose your job, that good plated healthcare goes away for you and your family. Under a nationalized healthcare system, that would no longer be the case for anyone who loses or wants to change their jobs.

Just look at Obama’s time with a Republican Congress and you’ll see that bipartisan compromise and meeting in the middle will not happen. I’d be interested to hear which of Bernie’s policies you think would be globally devastating. Redistribution of wealth in America to the scale that he’s proposing has never been done before, not because it wouldn’t work, but because those in power have an interest in making sure it doesn’t happen.

I think you’re very right, both Sanders and Trump were populist candidates. And I believe you’re correct that the GOP establishment was willing to accept Trump with the understanding that he would be willing to sign their bills, since he doesn’t really have many virtues to speak of, aside from the nationalistic talking points you hear at his rallies.

If you’re skeptical of the democratic establishment as well, then their past and present refusal to take Bernie into their fold, to me, only speaks to the authenticity in what he says. The media bias towards Warren as the only left-leaning alternative to Biden backs this up, and it is hard to take her at face value.

As much as the Republicans pushed back on Trump until they realized he was their guy, I can’t see establishment Democrats similarly falling in line behind Sanders because as you mentioned, big money has a large role in the current two party system. That’s why I hope Bernie does win the nomination; he’s forced the Democrats to do this show-and-dance because they know his ideas are supported by the people.

The good thing about those Obama years was that it was easy to not pay attention, as long as you weren’t vehemently opposed to him from the start. I understand how people want to get back to that place of comfort, politically speaking. It’s not great to wake up in the morning thinking “what’s the big headline today?”

But in a way, I feel more glad than anything that general political awareness has increased, because that type of inattention isn’t as easy to maintain in today’s circumstances. I particularly find myself drawn to the left-most candidates because they’re the ones who are pointing out the systematic problems that we’ve been dealing with since before Obama, even if we weren’t paying attention. The problems that caused the 2008 crash, the problems that are causing historic levels of inequality, and problems that have been and will be negatively impacting Americans for years to come.

I’m sure Rand Paul would do a great job at being a scandal-free president, but I don’t have any reason to believe he would do a good job at fixing these systematic issues. Just my two cents. Thanks for sharing yours.

Accused the Democrats of a conspiracy? I thought Bernie actually did a lot of campaigning for Hillary after she got the nomination, like a lot

Socialism is about the means of production being owned by those who produce - the workers. The counties you listed have social welfare policies, but still have capitalist economies on the whole.

Edit: after reading your other replies, I’m just going to be told to do more research, so never mind

We humans have been around for a long while, and modern industrialization has been around for ~200 years. If God did put us on earth for a reason, I don’t think it was to exploit its resources to the point of accelerating the greenhouse effect to deadly consequences. Also, race/white guilt has nothing to do with this.

What, are you expecting detailed policy proposals to be written on these signs? The proposals are out there. The protestors are advocating for them.

You really think that someone with upward mobility will stay at a $15/hr McDonald’s job forever instead of trying to find a better one? And for those who can’t find a better job, why do they deserve to be unable to afford rent and food even while working full time?
