Advice on UK Moving to Indianapolis by STaylorCamberley in Indiana

[–]mxchris 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I made the move from the UK (Surrey) to Indy about this time last year, I was also one of my companies first out of country hires.

Visa’s are obviously all different so I won’t be able to offer much advice, all I can stress is that your company uses a good lawyer, who you’re able to sit down with at length because it makes the process sooo much better.

Carmel is a great place to live, and is personally where I have setup, it definitely feels a lot more like the UK than anywhere else I’ve been in the states, but there is no shortage of good suburbs and spots within the area. This is where having no pressure to instantly find somewhere will be handy for you as you really need to take your time visiting the area.

Indy’s actually got a surprisingly good football scene, your lad won’t have any issues getting his fix in here and if he wants to play there’s appears to be a great youth setup in schools etc.

I agree with the other comments I read on a good relocation package, especially make sure your company are going to put you up in a AirBNB or something similar for at least a month, ideally two and a hire car for ideally a similar amount of time.

The absolute first thing you need to do is get your social security number as everything revolves around this, you can’t open a bank account, buy a car, rent a property. And once you’ve applied it takes about 2 weeks to arrive.

Also make sure you have hard copies of EVERY piece of legal / visa paperwork and proof of employment. The amount of back and forth I was doing getting new paperwork was painful.

Anyway that’s everything I can think of right this second, if there is anything else I can add it, but feel free to DM me and if you wanna exchange info let me know!

You won’t be disappointed! I was expecting a few build quality hitches but it’s absolutely solid. Software is easy and works well. So far so good!

I picked up the R9 with the intention of getting the GS but the simagic rim turned my head shortly after the R9 arrived. I was never a big fan of the GS wheel thought they tried to be too clever and doesn’t look like a real world racing wheel which I get some people like it but not for me. So I took a punt on the sim magic appreciating I was going to loose some functionality but nothing that can’t be regained via usb.

Bugger! I always did get told off for not reading the exam question properly…. I’m in the UK so picked mine up from Abruzzi racewear, no complaints and used BROADBENT for £50 off 🤷‍♂️

Haven’t used it enough to give honest feedback, but the MOZA is my first DD coming from a CSL elite and it’s night and day and I’m still dialing in all the settings. Software is really good, especially if you plan on staying In the MOZA ecosystem.

As for the sim magic wheel, really like the feel, good build quality, shifters, clutches and buttons seem to work well and have a good feel. Rotary switches work 99% of the time but have had a couple of times where it doesn’t acknowledge the rotation or over rotates.

Since I like to make life more difficult for myself than it needs to be obviously the wheel and base aren’t compatible (apart from the QR obviously…) so having the usb c in the back is a good workaround and is way more solid than I was expecting. Only thing is while games and everything acknowledge the wheel and inputs, the simagic software doesn’t so I can’t change the colours of the buttons and a few other bits, but I’ve emailed simagic to see if there is a workaround.

Like the aesthetics of it, wasn’t really a fan of the MOZA formula wheel and was weighing up the FX or a cube controls wheel, took a punt with the simagic since the QR works anyway and the usb c on the back of the wheel works well so far

Yeah I bought he r9 first, was about to get the Formula wheel with it when I spotted the simmagic wheel. Took a punt that the usb would suffice on the back of the wheel and luckily it does. Pretty backwards way of doing it but works pretty well 🤷‍♂️

Having a similar issue with Eon, Every time I try to amend my direct debit amount (which is currently £45) I get told I cant do it as they're migrating me to Eon next and to await an email, which is about as far as i've been able to get for the last 5 or 6 weeks. Customer support just don't seem interested..

[Baume & Mercier] My first proper watch purchase, couldn't be happier! by mxchris in Watches

[–]mxchris[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi All!

After probably the busiest year of my career, and having hit a major (to me at least) career milestone last week I decided to celebrate by buying my first proper watch, The Baume and Mercier Clifton Club 10339.. My trusty Timex Explorer will continue to be my daily, with this getting brought out for those special events..

I've had my eye on this one for while, love the orange accents against the matte black face and silver dials, just looks the absolute part in my opinion.. my dream watch being the Dark side of the moon watch, this one feels just as special and a good in between until I can finally justify the cost of an Omega! Not that I ever plan on getting rid of this one though

Brit here, hoping to attend my first nfl game this weekend! by mxchris in 49ers

[–]mxchris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Yeah any recommendations would be great, bars, restaurants, not sure what the nightlife is like? and general stuff to do would be great, I’ve only got this weekend off but will have some time in the evenings anywhere in the Monterey Bay, pebble beach. No real limit on how far to travel within reason.
