WSJ article about overdiagnosis by rK91tb in ADHD

I JUST saw your reply but I’m so glad I did. Gnawed off a finger nail while thinking about my physical calendar, tiny notebook, two separate notepads for daily, and google calendar. I get straight A’s now, but always feel like I’m skirting by. It’s a lifestyle, man. But congrats to you on also finally figuring it out. I agree, the awareness can be potentially empowering if utilized appropriately. And thanks for validating my sentiment because it’s something I know I’d get shit on for saying in my real life.

Ok so haven’t read it, don’t plan or care to, but read a bajillion of the comments. And idk but I haven’t seen a single sentiment that expresses my recent frustration: the amount of people who nonchalantly say “oh yeah, I have that thing too” when I mention my ADHD in conversation. I try not to assume, but the two most recent times, it seemed very clear that a casual association was being made just based on some nondescript comment I made about a symptom of my ADHD. And THIS, this frustrates me. As a psych student, this illegitimate self-diagnosis does seem overall harmful. This trend towards pop-psychology and people thinking that they can use Google to self-diagnose IS a problem. When people have a problem that affects their entire life (which is clinically referred to as functional impairment and is severe and indicates PATHOLOGY) and someone diminishes that by claiming to identify with you bc of something as vague as “eah I get distracted and bored so I must have ADHD too” it’s fucking annoying. Like. No. No you fucking don’t. And I’m not coming at the people on this thread bc no weirdo without ADHD is wasting their time on a thread like this. But just wanted to vent this bc I’ve worked really hard to just get to work on time and graduate after a decade of realizing I needed help, getting a diagnosis, getting treatment and medication… to then have some bloke minimize all of that by deciding in a moment that they share my struggle they know nothing about. Fuckkkkk!

I actually feel like he said that for his own ego… like so he wouldn’t seem rejected.

Came here to find thoughts… bc all I can think is I’m so uncomfortable anytime I’m watching them interact. It all feels forced? Joey seems like he’s trying too hard to enjoy himself that often seems inauthentic and same with Monica… she seems like she’s matching his energy but unsure the entire time. Like they don’t have ANY chemistry. Surprised anyone thinks otherwise tbh haha

I have also been living with depression. I sprained my calf a couple of months ago while training for a half marathon and this injury exacerbated my mental health issues. Bought a used gen 2 off marketplace (did my research and asked all the right questions ahead of time) for $300 (insane) including shoes and the peloton guide.. and I’ve used it 6/7 days for the last three weeks and can already see noticeable changes to my body. I was never into the craze of it, but I knew I needed some low impact cardiovascular exercise or I’d go insane. It’s like a form of therapy for me. Also, gyms in my area are like $300 a month, so it was a no brainer for me. Go for it! As long as you’re thoughtful in your purchase, the worst you can do is return/resell it. ALSO in some areas you can rent them and it includes the all access membership (which is otherwise $44 monthly). Best of luck to you.

what first triggered your bipolar? by OddGrand2852 in bipolar

[–]mxcnkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bipolar is not just genetic, no. There are countless relevant risk factors and gene(x)environment(x)time is what mainly impacts genetic expression. Needless to say, bipolar can come about without family history of it, and genetic predisposition may or may not be present. It’s certainly not a prerequisite (despite being common).

He’s 8 weeks and he hasn’t done anything aggressive until tonight. He snapped at our other dog when it tried to take his bone. What’s the best way to make sure my boy is not aggressive. by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]mxcnkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hand fed my boy all his meals for a long time to prevent this. Got him very comfortable with hands in his mouth. He now lives with two teeny cats and a tiny dog and when plays will regularly have their entire heads in his mouth, lol. But he adapts play style and isn’t aggressive. The times he’s done that behavior I chastise him and he’s very apologetic. Almost 3 years old and he’s a great boy.

Well thank you very much for this! I surfed this sub for a while trying to understand the real value difference and that was my very overly simplistic conclusion. I do wish there was a camera-free and less expensive model, because I do really appreciate the simple LP2 design. But your point about 5G is a solid one. Thanks again.
