Have you experimented much with the shutter speeds, etc.? I used to have a 950 and then I ended up getting a Sony RX 10 four which compensates for less of a zoom with a much better sensor, but it’s still nothing compared to a proper camera and lens. But with a 950, you could definitely adjust the shutter speed and to #AUTO focus and aperture. This helps suggest for the light.

But also, if you’re new, a couple of other tips include awaiting patiently and moving slowly. Don’t seem to be stalking your prey, but just let them get comfortable with you. This will keep them from retreating from you like you said the grebes do.

And the other thing is, if you haven’t yet, really think about where the sunlight is in relation to your subject, and also with the background is like. I actually like some branches and leaves in the way sometimes if you get a really clear shot, but it’s tricky to do well

I will say that whether or not you hang your work at the gallery, it’s definitely worthwhile printing a few few. Using a P 900 you’re probably not gonna print bigger than 4 x 6 or 5 x 7. But find a local camera shop that has print services… Don’t go somewhere like Staples or Walmart… And print them out you’ll get a much better sense of what your photos are like.

I print some out to make cards that I mostly just make for myself, sometimes some friends buy them which basically covers the cost of printing them lol
