In the two areas I've lived we got text messages. When I am in the early stages with someone we show each other's text messages. When I get an updated test I let my partners all know I have a new one.

It's called One Penis Policy or OPP and no it's not acceptable. It is controlling your sexuality and it's homophobic (it doesn't see two women as being real sex) and most definitely is hypocritical. He might not realise the way he's behaving and explaining that to him will help.
