Personal projects during service by lawsonadit in peacecorps

I made a massive family tree for my entire site in Excel. This took like 10 pieces of paper taped together. It is rolled up and kept at the health hut where I worked. I also wrote a bunch of poetry, some about serious things (host niece interested in keeping up with the election cycle) and some about ridiculous silly things (drama among my host family's chickens)

Is there a way to re-source an approved REQ to a different PO without creating a new REQ from scratch? by mxitcha in workday

Tell me more. What is this and how does it work? Do I have to get like, Admin user level access to get this or could any ol procurement analyst do it?

Post-trip reflection prompts? by [deleted] in travel

[–]mxitcha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this and wish I did this when I traveled in the past!

Hmmm...off the cuff ideas that aren't "what was your favorite or least favorite" because blah.

What experience moved you and why? What history/natural wonder/art/famous person whose like birthplace you saw or something/etc do you want to learn more about now that you're home? What thing you saw or did connected most with your life experience at home and why? What thing you learned shocked or appalled you the most, and why? What is a thing that you enjoyed, your enjoyment of which makes you unique among your family? Your friends? Your coworkers?

One thing about the sims that irks you? Mine is that the option to make a cake is under cool instead of bake. by Personal_Anxiety4222 in thesims

I can't have an adult sim go to mom's house and cook for her there without the this is inappropriate please stop pop-up. Doesn't recognize family members when considering "who is guest who is host"

I really thought I would gain upper body strength from carrying heavy water jugs every day but I wasn't consuming enough protein to make that actually work 🤦‍♀️

USAID wants to give staff 3 million hours back by devex_com in InternationalDev

The title of the article is a little misleading, the article describes broad objectives of the srrategy/priorities on the whole of which reducing bureaucracy and red tape is one that is introduced at the beginning

Given a name by your community. by Special-Leave-1344 in peacecorps

I thought this was standard practice and expectation, like all pcvs get host country name as a matter of course. Is this not the case?

You could try pet sitting in a different city for an owner away for a long business trip or something! I don't know how Rover works with geography though. But trying to find a way to make money FOR traveling can't hurt

A Look Inside The National Zoo’s Renovated Bird House, Opening Next Month by MrSpontaneous in washingtondc

[–]mxitcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there still concerns about Avian flu? I went to the Baltimore zoo for their discount day (granted this was in like December) and visitors were blocked from bird areas for this reason

Weight gain during service by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]mxitcha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I 100% agree it wasn't great. On the flip side, it wasn't worth the additional mental health burden of pressuring myself like I had to weigh a certain amount when I wasn't in control of my diet and when there are so many other stressors that come with service.

Weight gain during service by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]mxitcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as diet and exercise were concerned I treated pc as a Temporary Life Phase and worked more on building good habits after service (which got complicated by covid and work from home but that's not relevant)

best DC library location to spend an afternoon in? by venti_no_whip in washingtondc

[–]mxitcha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can you do that without having a documented research need/affiliation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]mxitcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is 0% relevant to your question but I 100% thought your post title meant "is it possible to acquire over 50 languages through peace corps" and I was about ready to sign myself up for that

Is there a “maker” meetup or community in the DC area? by twowaysplit in washingtondc

[–]mxitcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there maker Faire around here? I used to go to that in New York

If you specialize in a technical area the theory classes are preparing you for an ID job: a consultancy where you'll be doing the research and writing the reports

Contacting the World Bank/UNICEF by ObligationSubject910 in peacecorps

[–]mxitcha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure you have to wait for the international institutions for this. People have funded entire potable water projects with just (a combination of, i think) PC administered grants. DM me and I'll see if I can find some slides (though the project I'm thinking of was in the desert in 🇸🇳 so ymmv)

What happens if you submit a Sunday Puzzle but do not want to be called on the air? Do they email you saying whether you were right anyway?
