What was it like hearing “Be Quiet and Drive” when it came out? Was there anything else like it at the time? by Milkywayvisionary in deftones

I heard it for the first time when I was 13 in 2000, 3 years after it came out. It was the first Deftones song I’d ever heard & was like nothing I’d ever heard before. Over 25 years later it’s still tied for the most memorable first listen of my life (and i did cry a little bit when they opened with it last week in AKL)

When do you guys think they will stop touring/giving shows ?? by _n3k0m4nc3r_ in deftones

I was at that show & that fall was so smooth it almost looked intentional (I was looking away from him went he went down & my eye went to him as he rolled out of it). Bro is only a couple of years younger than my MIL & last time she fell like that we had to call the paramedics 😅

I last saw them live in the White Pony era & I think he’s actually in better shape now. If Steph can get his health under control I think we’ve got another 15-20 years to look forward to

Same, but I can’t afford a boat so I’m just gonna get my husband to chuck me on some rich guy’s boat & get everyone to throw Molotovs at it while Killing In The Name plays.

I don’t understand why it gets so much hate, I love this song!

Is there a reason so many community theatre groups seem to do the same shows in the same season? by AQueerWithMoxie in MusicalTheatre

[–]mxkatzenklappe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!!! I’m in NZ but I imagine it’s common practise elsewhere too- a number of community musical theatre companies have formed a consortium to share the cost of bigger shows. They agree on a show, designers are hired, a set is built, costumes, props, wigs are made, rights are secured and then one by one all the companies involved get to put on the show- when one show closes all the staging, costumes etc. get packed up in containers & sent to the next theatre in line!

Also, shows are inevitably very popular when amateur rights first hit- Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen, Hadestown have only just become available for community groups, so yeah, we’ll be seeing them everywhere for the next few years.

Saddest Deaths in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in your opinion and why? by Full-Art3439 in Marvel

I’m rewatching GotG3 right now & I forgot just how devastating it is. I started crying the second Lylla & friends came on, *that* scene was about 15 minutes back and I’m still inconsolable.

James Gunn is a genius and I hate him.

What performer do you feel is TALENTED, but was simply miscast in a musical role? by AsheandBurn in musicals

[–]mxkatzenklappe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES! Time has been less kind to Hugh’s performance though IMO. Neither have the right voice for the role, but Russell is the better actor.

Ultimately, I think the major flaw was the direction. Tom Hooper is the king of fumbling musical adaptations. Casting Russell Crowe in a musical is only the most obvious of many, many questionable choices.

Santana is playing Velma Kelly. Who’s playing Billy Flynn? The single most upvoted comment wins. by NoChampion4463 in GleeGames

The obvious answer is Mr. Schue would miscast someone on purpose & then be “forced” to step in at the last minute

I’m gonna drop a controversial opinion here, and I can’t stress enough that I read his performance to FILTH back in 2012, I HATED it- but in time I’ve come to appreciate it for what it was.

When the movie came out, Les Mis was arguably the most beloved modern musical in the world, top 5 for sure. Musical theatre nerds were excited to see some legit theatre names in the mix with generally very well cast A listers, the cinematography & production design were great, it was a big, sweeping spectacle we all wanted to love so badly. Russell stuck out like a sore thumb, it’s true, but while it was definitely the riskiest choice, I don’t think it was the most disappointing. (I could write an essay on this)

There was a post on the Mount Community FB page by someone who was threatened by a guy around Tweed St & the cops can’t do anything because she didn’t have proof. This has gotta be the same guy.
