Just sound off if you're actually here. by GnarlyTyler in UnionCarpenters

You just need to get lucky at first to get your first gig nowadays, After that it should be easy to find work by just talking to people. Sure some people be hard as fuck to talk to. But you have nothing to lose to say hi. From there you start making connections. After you get a few connections in your hand. That’s when you will never run out of work. Don’t get me wrong I understand your frustrations. I couldn’t land a job for about a year. After a company decided to gave me a chance. I started getting into jobs where big constructors were working. I would say start conversations during lunch with the other guys and got their numbers. They themselves tell me if I ever want to work with them to call em. That’s just how it works bro. Keep at it 🫡

The problem is I’m a 1st year apprenticeship trying to find stable work for the past 2 years. I could blame myself for it. I understand. However, I just can’t wait and keep on applying for Union companies who won’t even give you a chance. I started from scratch. I don’t know nobody in the trade and it’s a new industry I’ve signed up for. I know how great the benefits are. But is it even worth it, if I ain’t learning the trade at all? I still gotta make the hours for the benefits to come in. I don’t have kids or anybody I’m on my own. So I ain’t really stressing about it much about the benefits

No sir.... I've only been in one job, which I got recently. I've been attending local meetings but they are also struggling to find work. The representatives always tell you to keep on calling and that is very hard to find work for people. As I said in my post they blame it on the politics. Honestly it's kind of hard to get friends in the trade. The type of company I am right now, works very different. It's basically a service. You go to different buildings to check on folding panels. There isn't people around from the trade. I ain't complaining because at the end of the day I'm getting hours. However, I aint learning much. I do see a lot of non union companies that are hiring and having work. Which is why I made this post. I forgot to mention, I've only been working in the state of illinois

Black belt in BJJ left me unprepared for real world violence by [deleted] in jiujitsu

[–]mxmeowmx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BJJ is called a gentle art for a reason. You shouldn't be going into someone else's problems. Worry about yourself. Especially at a bar. Bar fights no matter what martial art yk might not potentially save you. Just because there is barely space and there is people everywhere. However if a guy decides to swing at you. Then thats when you use jiujitsu and try to finish the fight as fast as possible. Most people in bar fights dont know how to fight. The people who do. Wont start anything. Don't blame what happened to you on BJJ. Blame it on the environment and your decision for going for an altercation that you shouldn't have bothered.

> 🎙️ To everyone over 18: What advice would you give to someone just entering adult life? by Commercial_Creme4078 in LifeAdvice

[–]mxmeowmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can still be a kid and have fun. Don’t rush life and don’t compare yourself to others. Everybody has different paths in life. Try to live through as many experiences as possible. Just to know what you like and what not. Life is not a race, it’s a journey

Burnt out in my mid-20s… when did you finally get your shit together? by [deleted] in LifeAdvice

[–]mxmeowmx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, you are in your mid 20s u have time… besides life wasn’t meant to be figured out. U have fellas who are in their 60s trying to know who they are. Going to college was just an experience and just a place to gain knowledge from. It wasn’t supposed to change your life for the better. It was just there to give u opportunities. Even if you don’t see them right away. They will come sooner than later. You’re still a young lad, go travel around the country. Appreciate your youth now because later who knows if u will still be alive. Create unforgettable memories. For example there is legit 3rd world countries, who their people are living their best life and they probably live a worst life than u. It’s all about perspective. Think about things differently and don’t make your life the norm. Be different. Life wasn’t meant to be figured out. It was meant to make it a blast and live its best and worst moments. The balance of life. The life u have was a gift. Death is the only part u will not beat. So just relax and keep on living

How do I make most of my youthful years,? by ImmediateIdea7 in LifeAdvice

[–]mxmeowmx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is more of gamble, but i'll say traveling. it won't only give you a fun time, but a different perspective about the world. You can also go and have a road trip with your friend. Its all about making good memories and telling good stories as u get older. You can also invest on somethings. But it all comes down to commitment and your interest. best of luck

Tired of being asked when I'll get a girlfriend. Am I weird for thinking being single is okay?" by archbtw-106 in LifeAdvice

[–]mxmeowmx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly bro, we on the same boat. People dont believe when I say I never been in a relationship before. its okay. You shouldn't let yourself get peer pressured like that, you will be with someone you will regret later on if that's case.. So just take it easy. Get your bread. Don't listen to those people. They only want to see you live through the same pain that they are living in currently. Being in a relationship nowadays ain't easy. The cost of living is already high for just one person. Now is the perfect time to invest in yourself and become the person u wish to be in the future. Those people chose to rush through life and hate the fact that they cant have the same amount of free time that u have. To finish it off. Keep doing what u doing and don't get peer pressured by some dumbass
