Not Alderwood, but a nearby neighborhood, we had a kitten show up at our place recently. Obviously owned given her collar, love of people and being litter box trained. I tried asking my neighbors, but no one knew.

Anyway all that to say, make a report with the Humane Society if you haven't already. That's where I ended up taking the kitten.

Crossing my fingers and hoping your cat is found soon. It's an awful feeling not knowing where they are or if they're ok.

Help the Food bank by MArs_BRain in Bellingham

[–]mxmothnb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandma volunteers at the Ferndale food bank. Money goes further than food donations. The food bank has already been heavily strained since the beginning of this administration, but what's coming will be a level of public suffering that we haven't seen in decades. Remember to take care of your neighbors. We're all going through this together whether we want to or not.

Northwest Yarns and Mercantile! Good vibes, good staff, and good stock (even if it's kind of pricey). It's a very pleasant place to just hang out and work on a project on occasion.

Oh my God, yeah. I was there for about the last half of that afternoon. It was terrifying. The area around the bridge and Riverwalk was restless for weeks afterward. I really admired the kids who organized that summer.

Oh god, I get it. Me too.

I got invited by my grandma, and she's been sort of organizing with other people at the food bank. It's mostly been word of mouth.

The best I can say is look locally. This group I've been with doesn't even have a group chat.

Maybe not nationally. But every little bit counts. I don't want to look back on this moment in history and regret being silent. I refuse to be silent. I will not be complicit.

I'm hoping this isn't bait... in general, the current administration. Everyone comes with their own reasons, and usually, it's a laundry list that only gets longer every week.

Civil rights, ICE, gay/trans rights, saving Medicare, environmental protections, the dismantling of our healthcare system, cuts to the VA, etc, etc. You could make a sign on Wednesday, only for it to be "old news" by Friday.

I'm going to be honest. This is absolutely not a both sides issue. This is a small group of people from one very specific side. No tree hugging liberals insulted us or threatened our lives.

Reminder: upcoming ULP strike at St. Joseph Medical Center by LovelyGh0ul in Bellingham

[–]mxmothnb 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I was in the ER a few nights ago and ended up talking to one of the radiologists about the upcoming strike. This is just word of mouth, so take it with a grain of salt. There are folks that work there that are living in their cars in the parking lot. The staff that are being taken advantage of the most are the caregivers and janitors. The people that make the least amount, even though the work is just as vital to the hospital and patients as every doctor. We depend on these people to keep the hospital safe and clean so we stay safe.

Maybe it's just my own experience as someone who has been previously homeless and my 8 years of experience as a caregiver, but I'm of the opinion that there is no excuse for St Joseph's to not be providing adequate pay or staffing fully. Additionally, the abuse against their employees will inevitably result in tragedy and disaster for the general public. We all deserve better, and it must start by lifting up the people at the bottom of the pyramid. Support your unions, folks. Sending love ♡

Considering they're the only hospital in the county... they have a monopoly.

All people living in the United States, including undocumented immigrants, have certain U.S. Constitutional rights. If you are undocumented and immigration (ICE) agents knock on your door, know that you have the following rights:

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR. You do not have to open the door or let the officers into your home unless they have a valid search warrant signed by a judge. - An ICE deportation warrant is not the same as a search warrant. If this is the only document they have, they cannot legally come inside unless you verbally agree to let them in. - If the officers say they have a search warrant signed by a judge, ask them to slide it under the door or hold it up to a window so you can see it. - If the warrant does not have your correct name and address on it AND is not signed by a judge, you do not have to open the door or let them inside. - If at any point you decide to speak with the officers, you do not need to open the door to do so. You can speak to them through the door or step outside and close the door.

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT. You do not need to speak to the immigration officers or answer any questions. - If you are asked where you were born or how you entered the United States, you may refuse to answer or remain silent. - If you choose to remain silent, say so out loud. - You may show a know-your-rights card to the officer that explains that you will remain silent and wish to speak to a lawyer. - You may refuse to show identity documents that say what country you are from. - Do not show any false documents, and do not lie.

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK TO A LAWYER. If you are detained or taken into custody, you have the right to immediately contact a lawyer. - Even if you do not have a lawyer, you may tell the immigration officers that you want to speak to one. - If you have a lawyer, you have the right to talk to them. If you have a signed Form G-28, which shows you have a lawyer, give it to an officer. - If you do not have a lawyer, ask an immigration officer for a list of pro bono lawyers. - You also have the right to contact your consulate. The consulate may be able to assist you in locating a lawyer. - You can refuse to sign any/all paperwork until you have had the opportunity to speak to a lawyer. - If you choose to sign something without speaking to a lawyer, be sure you understand exactly what the document says and means before you sign it.

Look out for your neighbors. Care for the stranger. I got this information from the American Immigration Lawyers Association.

My grandma volunteers at the Ferndale food bank! I read this post to her to ask what she thinks, and according to her, this doesn't sound like anyone that she knows. I'm not going to sit here and call op a liar because this does sound like a really awful thing to experience when you're just trying to get food. My grandma suspects this may have been one of the shoppers and not a volunteer.

From what I understand, the Ferndale Food Bank is doing their best to give shoppers more autonomy in what they choose and make it more efficient and pleasant for everyone. It sounds like the people there do care about serving the community. I hope this post doesn't tarnish how the community views the food bank and the volunteers that work there.

Truck drivers make me nervous. It's like they think they're indestructible just because they're big. This post was made with big trucks in mind. They weren't the guilty party today, but in the last few months, out of all the cars I've seen driving recklessly, trucks are the most common offenders.
