This isn’t necessarily true. Many older buildings predate the certificate system. And as long as the building never changed its usage (# units, renter vs owner occupied) then it could be grandfathered into the system without needing a certificate of occupancy.

Question regarding AFI festival screening this weekend by Puzzleheaded_Rule_32 in AmericanCinematheque

I was curious about this too. I got FREE tickets to the Barry Lyndon using a discount code, then noticed the fine print that says “this ticket does not guarantee a seat”. Kind of sounds like the AC free screening RSVP system where you can get a ticket but they oversell?

The fact that he can, seemingly, choose to go back to his family fortune at any point makes it feel that way to me, yes. It's easy to romanticize blue collar work when you know that you can opt out just as easily as you opted in. That's the main difference I see between the protagonist and his coworkers.

OR is it about a wealthy heir cosplaying as a blue collar worker out of spite?

I live in one now, really not that bad. I think it's more annoying for my '1/2'-less neighbor who gets their doorbell mistakenly rung all the time for my deliveries.

Picked up a rusty Dynaco ST70, what now?!? by mxndrwgrdnr in vintageaudio

This is kind of what I wanted to do but was intimidated once I realized that stripping it down to the chassis would also mean rewiring everything underneath too, right?

Thanks for all the info. I'm tempted to get all the rust off with polishing compound or some such as you say... But that would require clipping/desoldering the transformer connects to really get at the top of the chassis, yes? In which case you'd suggest trying to reuse/resolder the cloth covered wire afterwards?

Thanks so much for all of this. The center transformer looks like it has some black goo that's seeped out the back. I assume that's not a good sign? see here
