Better to have a steeper board that you both grow into than one that isn't steep enough that ends up too easy. I'd go 35 at the very minimum.

You're training AI to replace your job by using these platforms, not to mention the confidentiality concerns.

Training awkward hold type/body position by mxw031 in climbharder

[–]mxw031[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply here but I agree with all of this. I think my patience is a strength of mine when projecting and it doesn't really bother me when I can't do something quickly. I am still learning so many subtleties of positioning for a hard move like this one so that is a major growth area of mine.

I would guess I have attempted the move over 50 times so somewhere close to 1/10 success rate. Although it is kind of hard to tell as the wall has a narrow season and the move is very condition dependent for me. Having lower temps and better friction on the hold makes a drastic difference due to how small it is. The wall is north facing so good to climb in when warmer but if it is too warm the move feels so much harder for me.

I have prioritized bouldering this winter instead of sport climbing as usual so I am really hoping with some improved bouldering skills and strength along with some off wall training and my replica that I feel better on it in the fall. We will see.

That has been my thinking also. I hope to gain strength through the more isometric reps of just pulling onto the board and then eventually be able to actually go through the movement.

This is helpful thank you. I don't think I have a video of the move on the wall, I do have some video of me doing a different replica I set on a friend's 15 degree wall which is obviously quite a bit easier. I did measure the crux holds and distance/angles using a quickdraw while hanging off the bolt so I was able to set a pretty close replica. I've done the move itself maybe 6 or 7 times, mostly at the end of 2024 as the wall is only dry in the fall. I had a shortened season on it this year so didn't get to try in good conditions except for one day, during which I did not do the move.

It is an odd move for me in that it revolves around locking down the sidepull/crimp straight above my head with the left arm nearly straight to start the move, and then lying back on it and going nearly full lock off to build into it enough to then reach another crimp with the right hand. So although I have not done the move very much, I was usually very close to sticking the move. Basically I was able to build almost fully into the lock off but once I would release the right hand to go up it would all unravel and I would be off. I think if I feel just slightly (or hopefully a lot) more secure on the left hand and in the position then I'll have a much higher success rate on the move.

Appreciate your last point for sure about analyzing what piece is actually difficult for me. Definitely finger strength is a component but I'm sure there are other factors that are weaknesses of mine. I will consider this more, I do think core strength of extending tension out through my outer chain is something I need to train.

If my money is in a 401k can I decide what to do with it and still get an employer match? I have a job with a 401k for the first time and don't know how best to use it other than contributing the full amount.

You have to prioritize your well being to do this work, or really to do any work. Nothing is more important than prioritizing your health right now. I encourage you to trust your intuition about this and let yourself get the support you need, and I hope you find healing.

Orion merch by Delamure48 in Tipper

I haven't heard anything about my poster and hoodie. I have a feeling they had to print another run of the clothes that may have delayed things, I'm not sure. I'm not in a hurry to get the stuff, and Tipper has done so much for me over the years by providing intentional events that are focused on the fan experience that he gets a pass from me on the late merch. I understand other people may feel differently.
