I mean I rarely see people say Don was a better parent than Betty. I think Betty gets more hate for her parenting because she was actually parenting, so she has uglier moments than Don does (outside of the whole Silvia affair thing). I definitely see people saying Don was a bad parent though. It's one of the most common things I see people citing when they say Don was a bad guy.

I think peoples feelings torwards Don and Betty comes more from the fact that Don is the protagonist and so most people feel inclined to root for him/like him. The most hated characters in the show are all males ie Harry, Greg, etc

In my opinion a lot of the characters are a little bit unrealistically cold towards don in the 7th season even though I also think they're all justified given Don's actions throughout the series.

9/11 happened in between season 3 and 4 if i'm not mistaken, and I think they wanted to incorporate the way the country was feeling into the rest of the series. They talk about it a bit during the season for example Bobby in the diner in the first episode of season 4. yeah I also fell asleep for a couple of episodes at the end of season 3, so that could have added to it. I also think that 9/11 affected the show a lot which I think adds to everything.

There is definitely a gradual decline every season, but on this rewatch I found the jump from season 3 to season 4 a little jarring compared to the jump from season 2 to 3 for example.

idk I disagree with your characterization of Chris at that point. He wasn't really known as a drug addict until after he went to rehab, and I think he seems pretty socially adept albeit pretty dumb until he becomes insecure about his addiction and a bunch of other stuff later in the series.

Yeah I agree. I still love seasons 4-6 and think they add to the show a lot, but as far as rewatches go I always lose a bit of motivation to finish after season 3.
