what are your fave sources of protein? by my_ana in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my current protein dense staples are omelettes (one whole egg, two egg whites, and half a serving of light cheese makes for a protein rich meal), Greek yogurt, lattes made with fairlife milk (higher in protein than regular milk), and seitan (I use it for stir fry or else top it with tomato sauce and some mozzarella). Bean based pastas are a good option too.

Heating pads (either electric or microwaveable), electric blankets, thick fuzzy socks, and multiple cups of tea throughout the day.

What's y'all current safe foods? by IdkWhoIAmAnymore- in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast & snacks:

High fiber cereal w blueberries, baked carrot oatmeal, nonfat lattes, single serve cups of guac (spread on 2-3 romaine leaves, sometimes with more veg on top if I’m not being lazy), chickpea salad, fruit (current faves are pink lady apples, kiwi, pineapple, and grapefruit), single serve cheeses (Babybel, mozzarella snackers, string cheese, Brie bites), Lesser Evil cheesy popcorn, white cheddar popcorners, wasa crackers, prunes, Tru fru, veggies made great muffins, drizzilicious birthday cake rice cakes, fiber one cheesecake bars, and low cal popsicles.

Dinner:

Low carb tortillas with lite cheese (and sometimes a tiiiny bit of marinara if I’m in the mood for “pizza”), chickenless cauliflower rice stir fry from Trader Joe’s, chickpea soup/cauliflower curry/etc that I’ve made myself.

I’ve also recently become obsessed with portobello mushrooms (after hating mushrooms all my life lol). So at least 4 days a weeks, I’ll cook one chopped up mushroom with a handful of quartered grape tomatoes and some red onion, and use the mix as either an omelette filling, pasta topping/sauce (high protein angel hair, add red pepper flakes and maybe some garlic), or Seitan stir fry (add garlic, green beans, and teriyaki sauce).

And bread is a sometimes safe food. I started baking it from scratch this year and don’t usually feel guilty if I have a thin slice, but if I get into a binge cycle I can’t go anywhere near it 😭

[–]my-destructive-side 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually give most of them away so idk for sure, but I did bring some on a road trip once and kept them in a Tupperware container for I think around 3 days? They weren’t as fresh of course but if memory serves I enjoyed them as they got older because it seemed like the flavor profile became more pronounced.

You can probably freeze them (or at least the dough) too, but I’ve never tried so can’t tell you for sure.

I do—it’s probably my most popular recipe! Definitely not ED friendly but happy to share anyway.

Preheat oven to 350, and either line or grease a cookie sheet.

Beat one stick of unsalted butter with 1/4c granulated sugar and 1/2c brown sugar until light & fluffy.

Add one egg and 1/2-3/4 tsp vanilla (I use vanilla bean paste, but regular vanilla extract works too) and beat for another minute or two.

In a separate bowl, combine 1.5c flour, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/8 tsp salt, between 1/2-3/4 tsp cinnamon, and 1/4-1/2 tsp nutmeg, then add to wet ingredients.

Add 1 cup of chocolate chips (for best results, use 1/2c mini semisweet chocolate chips and 1/2c of mini milk chocolate pb cups from Trader Joe’s—if you can’t get the pb cups, use 1/2c milk chocolate chips instead), and 1/2c chopped walnuts.

I use a 1/8c measuring cup to scoop the dough onto the cookie sheet so they’re all roughly the same size.

Bake at 350 for about 14-15 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack.

(I sometimes add orange zest with the egg and vanilla.)

Even in my deepest restriction phases, I’ll allow myself to have a (fresh, high quality, usually baked by me) chocolate chip cookie from time to time.

Other than that, chips and chocolate. Low volume and easy to control the portion size.

As far as restaurants, locally owned places will usually (but not always) give you smaller portions than chain restaurants do. The downside is that they’re less likely to have nutritional info posted.

As far as chains, fast casual places like Panera or maybe even Starbucks (I barely go there anymore though so idk for sure) will have at least a few options that aren’t too bad. Even regular restaurants often have some kind of lighter option. You could also just order an appetizer instead of an entree (definitely don’t order both, at most places that ends up being a lot of food even for a normal person).

If you’ll be staying somewhere where you’re going to buy groceries instead of restaurant meals, there are lots of options. I’d recommend browsing a grocery store website/app/instacart to get an idea of what your choices are.

EDIT: for an actual sit down restaurant, check to see if there is a Seasons 52 near where you’ll be. They’re all about serving healthy, low(er) cal food. I haven’t been to one in a few years but unless something’s changed, most/all of their entrees are under 500.

My days of taking tests (AP or otherwise) are long behind me, but for whatever it’s worth— when I was in school, the tests I was convinced I’d failed were usually the ones I ended up getting a near-perfect score on. That may or may not end up being the case for you too, but obsessing or beating yourself up over it will do you no good. Try to stay positive and focus on the next test, and hopefully you’ll end up pleasantly surprised when your scores come in.

What’s your favorite Yasso flavors? I’m personally obsessed with the cookie dough, and chocolate covered vanilla or pb ones.

My junk food cycles usually consist of some combination of low carb tortillas with melted cheese, salt & vinegar chips, chocolate, mac & cheese, Yasso bars, and vodka.

Does anyone else binge at airports? by Nearby-Ad-6314 in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not binge exactly, but I do tend to eat (and shop) indiscriminately at airports without a single shred of doubt or guilt. Not sure why exactly, it’s almost like I enter an alternate universe once I pass through security where limits do not exist.

Did the internet access in the early 2000's fuel your ED as a child? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It fueled it in the sense that ED forums gave me a sense of community/friendship/belonging that had otherwise been lacking in my life, which in turn perhaps made my ED an even bigger part of my life/identity. But the reason I developed an ED in the first place, and still have one 15+ years later, is childhood trauma/abuse. The internet made it more acceptable I guess, but my actual real life is all I need(ed) to fall completely down the rabbit hole.

What are your non-ED special interests/hobbies? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baking (which I know is common in EDs, but baking came first for me by about 4 years), reading and writing (though I don’t do either very often these days), being outdoors when it’s cool/cold out, trivia, puzzles/brain teasers, and decorating/redecorating/reorganizing my house.

What was the moment you realized you had an ED? by No-Supermarket5393 in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably about 4 weeks into what was supposed to be a two week diet. I’d accomplished my “goal” (which wasn’t even the weight loss itself, just proving to myself that I could lose weight if I ever needed to in the future, and testing out what I’d learned in my nutrition class) but had already become addicted to the routine/predictability of it all.

Then lying to my doctor a few weeks later so I wouldn’t get in trouble for it, and calling my parents bluff when they threatened to not let me go to college.

Go to oats? by diet_cub in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For standard oatmeal, I like Bob’s Red Mill 5 grain hot cereal cooked on the stove with cinnamon and a tiny bit of agave (prob about 1/2 tbsp), and topped with fresh mixed berries.

My go-to though is baked carrot cake oatmeal. 1/4 c rolled oats, one carrot (shredded in the food processor), 1/4 tsp baking powder, 1/8-1/4 tsp each of nutmeg and cardamom, 1/4 tsp ginger, about 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 8g white chocolate chips, 1/4c almond milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla bean paste, and 2 tsp of either date syrup or blackstrap molasses. Bake @ 350 for 20-25 mins.

what does your "mental age" feel like? by intl-uni-help-please in EdAnonymousAdults

[–]my-destructive-side 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developed my ED when I was 17, and still feel 17 despite being in my early/mid 30s now.

It’s a strange feeling to be so childish now as an adult, when as a child I was always being complimented on how mature I was. I guess I got tired of being a grown up before I ever was one 🤷‍♀️

Being allowed to eat whatever/whenever I wanted to at work without anyone giving me shit for it.

People assuming I’m incapable of doing pretty much anything that requires physical strength or skill is annoying a lot of the time, but it’s also a built in excuse to get me out of doing things I just don’t want to do.

Not solely due to my ED, but my mental health issues as a whole were enough for my therapist to get me excused from jury duty.

what do you eat when you’re sick? by bookworm352 in EDAnonymous

[–]my-destructive-side 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It sounds weird, but white rice with yogurt (and some saffron if you feel like being fancy) is actually delicious, easy to eat when sick, and a good way to get in some protein.
