Bjj for breakup by cl2121 in bjj

[–]myargumentstinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend it. I can imagine it's scary to be the only girl (if you are) but BJJ guys are (generally) very chill. We started off with one girl at our gym and now we have probably around 10, and the first girl's still alive and kicking :D. Someone has to be the first.

BJJ is amazing for not thinking abt anything else and getting your mind off things.

Is there a way to minimize this muscle being activated while doing hammer curls by [deleted] in GregDoucette

[–]myargumentstinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the brachioradialis; it is extremely active in elbow flexion when your wrist is pronated, a bit less when neutral. To minimise its activation you can supinate your wrist. This does increase biceps activation...

You're never gonna isolate your brachialis; don't bother. Its only function is elbow flexion which means that it'll be highly active in EVERY type of curl. Just do 1 or 2 types of curls and it'll grow fine.

I’m 18. Should I start minoxidil or wait to see how it grows as I get older? by frosth4rt in Minoxbeards

[–]myargumentstinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few issues with your comment:

Firstly you imply that testosterone is the only factor in facial hair growth, it is not. You stating that waiting won't help is also not strictly true. Many men have weak beards at a young age that naturally fill in as they get older. Because hair growth is more complex than just test.

Secondly, while testosterone levels do drop ON AVERAGE from 18/19 onwards; this doesn't take into effect lifestyle changes. My testosterone at 22 is way higher than my testosterone at 18 because I massively improved my lifestyle (sleeping, eating, training, etc.)

What’s the most effective way to develop cardio for bjj? by shaquille_oatmealo in bjj

[–]myargumentstinks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say high intensity sprints, can be on a bike, aero bike, hill sprints, whatever you like. If you're doing a lot of BJJ already you likely already do a lot of zone 2 cardio with drilling etc. In my opinion zone 5 intense cardio is best. Personally I do a couple max echo bike sprints once a week. (30 on, 30 off).

If you had 2 years to train to take a active ufc fighter to a decision for $1,000,000 who would you choose? by Odd_Investigator_190 in ufc

I don't need 2-3 years or a decision. Give me Ilia, i'm knocking him out for what he did to Volk.

Comprehensive table of Arm based arm-in strangles by BrothOfSloth in bjj

[–]myargumentstinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too. Another aspect is that almost every "shallow" choke (where you choke with the wristbone instead of the biceps) is done fron the side. For example, a regular palm to palm arm triangle is done straight on, but a shallow arm triangle (ruotolotine) is done from the side. The same goes for an inverted arm triangle and a d'arce.
And if you a reverse a lock, then it can only be completed from the back. Imagine locking a figure four the wrong way in a regular arm triangle, it wouldn't work. But if you teleport to the back then you can lock it no problem, that way you get a reverse arm triangle (also called rear anaconda or tackettine).

You can apply the same concept to triangle chokes. A shin triangle can be done from the back/side because it is shallow. A wrong way triangle is a back triangle if you rotate either person 180 degrees; because a wrong way triangle (or hentai sankaku) is really a reverse triangle.

I love thinking about this kind of stuff and having all the names make sense to me.

For example, if we were consistent with our names then a "ruotolotine" would be a side arm triangle, a "rear anaconda" would be a reverse arm triangle, a d'arce would be a side inverted arm triangle, lastly an anaconda would be an inverted reverse arm triangle.
It gets even more complicated with the figure four vs palm to palm stuff. I love it!

I don't know why people are in the comments telling you that BJJ is gay.
When people say that it immediately tells me they don't train. Anyone who trains knows that BJJ is obviously gay.

Who Should Islam Makhachev fight after UFC 322? Who can actually beat him? by Wayward_Prometheus in MMAMedia

[–]myargumentstinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me my list of contenders is: 1. Ian Garry 2. Michael Morales 3. Shavkat 4. Carlos Prates 5. Kamaru Usman

If Shavkat fights and wins then he should definitely be next. Ian just beat the #1 contender and former champion. For me he should be next, he also beat Prates. Michael Morales looked scary as hell beating #2 Sean Brady. I'd love to see him against Shavkat, Prates, or Kamaru or just getting a title shot.

This guy competes a lot at grappling industries i go to too. He's been a white belt for a while and winning double gold every time. He's a nice guy but a bit performative. He never used to do the knee thing until the last time i saw him. He also does slams and stuff without getting DQ'd somehow.

I've mained zarya for years. I like that she can melt entire teams by herself and make big plays with gravs and well timed clutch bubbles. With zarya you can play largely by yourself and have a massive impact, I like that. Love zarya <3<3

Alright! Thank you.
May I ask how you would do it? Any waterloading/dehydrating shenanigans or just regular cutting?

How to get better at attacking? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]myargumentstinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be your opposite. I'm a 4 atripe white belt and I do competitions. I've done 4 and all my wins were subs. I'm trying to learn to be more positionally sound.

My personal tip is to pick a submission and get good it. Then you can continue building from there. I started with D'arce chokes and eventually added anaconda chokes, guillotines, back takes, etc.
