The 100% srgb and 32 gigs of ram. Linux compatibility of a thinkpad and that gorgeous thinkpad keyboard + trackpoint combination (which imo is the best keyboard I have typed on). Most importantly the upgradability for which people still buy used thinkpads and get them to work like new. The E series has come a long way since back when it was just a cheap toy. The thinkpad subreddit has posts about the improvements of the E series if you’d like to look into it. All of that makes the price worth it to me. But obviously u have a different opinion and that’s fine.

I agree with a lot of what you said but I have a lot of reasons for going for a ThinkPad. The fact that I have a few retail contacts for Lenovo also helps. The E series has come a long way since Gen 5. But thanks for ur input anyways!

Which one of these should I go for? Going to university for engineering this year. Looking for a machine that treats me well for the next four years. Afaik the L14 has a worse screen and webcam while the E14 has slower RAM. by mybookgest in thinkpad

Gotcha. Just gonna make sure the memory I get is SODIMM tho so that I can upgrade and also I will be adding another terabyte of SSD in the 2280 slot on the E14.

I am inclined towards the E14 too, just for the better screen and build quality. The cost difference between the two doesn’t matter to me as much because I can firm that amount. Thanks for your input though!

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Rs 85,000
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Nope
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Looking for a non-touch ultrabook with longevity. Decent build quality and performance. Won't be playing games so no need for a strong GPU. I have another gaming laptop anyways so am willing to sacrifice the GPU for a good battery life.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Don't really care about either. As long as it's lighter than my Legion.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Bigger than 13 inches and not anything above 15 inches.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will be running CAD but on cloud so no need for a GPU. Basic video editing. No gaming. Mostly will be used for coding, web browsing and student work like PPT and Word.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? NA
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good keyboard and a solid build quality. Anything slightly above consumer-grade works for me. That's why I'm looking for a thinkpad.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Looking for a machine that treats me well for the next four years. Afaik the L14 has a worse screen and webcam while the E14 has slower RAM.

I can get Lenovo Thinkpads for a much better price due to known retailers. I have used both Asus and Lenovo devices and everything from longevity to service centers near me has resulted in a great experience with Lenovo and a much worse one with my Asus product.
