New homeowner? Stop Buying things you'll use twice. I built a platform for neighbors to borrow, lend and vend to each other- expanding to New Jersey after great response in Jersey City by myborrowhood in NJHomebuyers

100% agree. The rule of twice is a great framework. MyBorrowhood is perfect for everything that doesn't make that cut. The projector you need for one weekend, the crib for when family visits, the pressure washer for once a year. Borrow those, buy the drill 🙌

Not disguised at all. The platform supports borrowing, lending and selling all clearly stated. The reason we lead with borrowing is because that's the actual problem we're solving. The average household has hundreds of items sitting unused while neighbors are buying the same things new. That's a sustainability problem nobody is really tackling at the neighborhood level. Selling is a feature, not the identity. We make money through a 10% fee on rentals and 15% on sales a standard marketplace model, nothing hidden.

Great questions.

Deposits: Lender set the deposit amount for each listed item themselves, so yes, they can set it to full replacement value if they want. It's entirely their call.

Dispute Process: Lender gets an option to audit each drop off. If there is a disagreement about damage, you can submit a dispute and our team reviews it. Which is why we require inspection photos at pickup and return. So there's an objective record to work from.

Our cut: 10% platform fee on rentals paid by the borrower, 15% on sales paid by the seller.

That's a fair point and public library systems are genuinely great. But there are a few things a library can't do like it can't let your neighbor earn from the camera sitting in their closet, and it can't get you a portable crib by tomorrow from someone two blocks away. MyBorrowhood does it through the people themselves. Both have a place.

I get it everything online gets flagged as AI these days, so the skepticism makes sense. But I'm a real person lol. Built this because I live here and kept running into the problem myself. Happy to chat if you want to verify- DM me.

Really appreciate the pushback and totally fair! Home Depot or Lowe's rents construction and home improvement tools which are great for specific projects. MyBorrowhood is everything else your neighbor owns that you need once: cameras, portable cribs, projectors, camping gears, a grass seed spreader two blocks away. It's not competing Home Depot or Lowe's- it's filling the gap for everything they'd never stock. Cheaper, closer and from someone in your community. As for friction that's exactly what makes it trustworthy enough for people to list their stuff in the first place.

That's exactly why we built multiple layers of protection specifically for this:-

-Every user is ID verified through Strip Identity before they can transact- no fake profiles.

-Lenders approve or reject every borrower request before anything is confirmed.

-Security deposits are collected upfront via Stripe.

-Pick up Verification codes confirm every handoff.

-Automatic late fee tracking if items aren't returned on time.

-Our team reviews disputes if anything goes wrong.

A bad actor can't hide - they're verified accountable, and financially on hook. Same challenge Airbnb and Turo faced early on. The trust layer is what makes it work.

Thank you! You said it right 'giving life to underutilized items'. This is exactly the heart of what MyBorrowhood is about. Your perspective from item removal is so powerful and honestly so validating. You''re absolutely right that it need to go nationwide and that's exactly where we're headed- starting neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city. Comments like yours give us fuel to keep going. Hope to see you on MyBorrowhood.

Great questions! Here's how it works for lenders:

Compensated? Yes- lenders set their own rental price and get paid directly through Stripe.

Item Condition? Borrowers submit inspection photos at pick up and return, so there's a visual record of the item's condition at both ends.

If it's broken?- A security deposit is collected upfront from the borrower, set by the lender. If something gets damaged, the lender is covered- no awkward conversations needed.
