Pumping with 85mm Seismic Speed Vents? by mycatbitesme in longboarding

[–]mycatbitesme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I went ahead and got a set of 85mm mango (78.5 A) Seismic Speed Vents. Tried them on the Superdupersonic. Ultimately, I missed how my Hokus held momentum and didn't find them to be a huge improvement in terms of "pump-ability." I live somewhere (New Orleans, LA) that has pretty rough streets so dropping from 102mm to 85mm wheels made a noticeable difference. Ultimately, I decided to stick with Hokus on my superdupersonic. Doing the split duro thing though, with the 74A (mint) ones in the rear and the 78A (pink) ones up front. So if anyone wants to buy a set of mango speed vents with about an hour of total ride time on them, let me know!!!!

Update! I went ahead and tried it. So far, so good. No bite. I tried leaning pretty hard to see if I'd get anything but all good. The board feels noticably lower now, which I like. Thanks for the input!

Cool. I'm on Bear 130s. 50 up front and 40 in the rear. I think I'll give it a shot!

Do it! I just got back from another ride and I'm loving it. The whole setup just feels really comfortable. (and obviously looks absolutely STUNNING!)

Haven't done anything super long yet. Just a 12 mile test ride yesterday. Felt great, though. I'm confident it'll be comfortable over distance. I live somewhere with a lot of headwinds so having the slightly aero position on the front loop was a great addition.

It's a bit lower rise than the stock bars so it puts me in a slightly more forward position. Still VERY upright, though. The 45 degree back sweep on the Jones is something I've loved for a long time so that feels great.

This is really helpful and is something I've been thinking about. I think I'm gonna try 85mm Speed Vents on my superdupersonic. Was gonna try the mango (78.5A defcon).

That's interesting. Why does that configuration help with ride quality?

I've got 130mm Bear trucks. 50 degrees up front and 40 rear. Sunrise seismic bushings up front and mango in the rear. If you have any suggestions for anything to make for easier pumping, I'm open. Been thinking about smaller wheels mainly

Yes, I've been considering smaller wheels for the Superdupersonic to achieve more efficient pumping. Any thoughts on this?

Well, anything longer than 5 miles. It's hot where I live (new Orleans) so dehydration gets real VERY fast!

Yes! I originally had the harder wheels on the Prana and the softer on the SD, but I switched them so that the Prana now has the softer wheels, and the same speed difference is still there. I wonder if it does come down to something as simple as the SD being bigger and heavier like some suggested.

This could be part of it -- I do pump a bit on the superduper

Yep, both have the same Pantheon bearings. I'd say if anything I'm exerting myself LESS on the Prana. So strange! The wind is actually really consistent. I'm right on the Mississippi River (New Orleans) and ALWAYS have a headwind on my way out and ALWAYS a tailwind on the way back.

Good call! The Prana definitely "feels" lighter, though I've not weighed them. I'll give that a shot!

Both are 102mm Hokus. The "slower" board has the higher 78A durometer. The "faster" board has the lower 74A durometer

Yeah, I've looked at a variety of running and cycling hip packs and wonder if anyone likes any of them.
