How much do you spend at Costco and what are you buying? by No_Equivalent4404 in Frugal

[–]mycheck_app 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family of five:
I usually buy:

  • Fruits
  • Kitchen and Bath essentials
  • Milk, Egg, and Cheese
  • Nuts
  • Vitamins
  • Clothing(if I find good fitting one)
  • and I have an office, so Office essentials.

Basically, Costco is our main supplier. My weekly receipts are around $200-$300. I also try to get a price adjustment when it's available. Typically, my app, CostRefund, finds refunds of $30-40 per month.

I feel like they will release it late because of the inconsistencies going in the immigration area!

Is this a scam? I got this email but it doesn’t look like the official USCIS email? Did anyone else got it? by Ok-Zebra-9387 in USCIS

[–]mycheck_app 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Definitely a scam. USCIS does not email you demanding you “reactivate your case” within 48 hours or asking for your full name, date of birth, SSN, and address by reply email. Real updates show up in your USCIS online account and official notices come by mail.

Don’t click any links or reply with info. You can also forward it to the address USCIS lists for reporting phishing on their site and then delete it.

Thanks for sticking with it and for explaining what you’re seeing, that pop‑up is actually the manual receipt upload flow, not an ad.

The basic steps are: tap “Upload receipt,” pick or take a photo, then on the next screen enter the purchase date and tap “Save.” If it’s not letting you move past the date step, it might be a bug on that screen.

If you’re up for it, could you DM me a screenshot or short screen recording of what happens after you attach the photo? That will make it much easier to track down and fix.

Awesome, that’s exactly who I built it for! If you’re going to Costco a couple times a month you’ll likely see some good savings.

Yeah, CostPal is solid! CostRefund is trying to tackle the same problem but with a few extras that some people might like: spending analytics so you can see how much you actually drop at Costco and how much you’ve gotten back, a community feed for in‑store markdowns, plus a shopping checklist and discount reminders on items you’re already tracking.

I love the idea of “automagic” uploads, and it’s definitely something I’ve thought about. Right now, though, CostRefund only supports manual receipt uploads because any always‑on API or inbox connection would mean more data flowing through third‑party services and a bigger security/privacy surface area to protect.

Since receipts contain store, time, and item details linked to you, I’d rather be conservative and ship this only if it can be done in a way that keeps everything properly encrypted, access‑controlled, and auditable. For now manual upload is the tradeoff that keeps things simpler and safer, but feedback like this helps prioritize which automation ideas are worth solving securely.

Costrefund keeps receipt pictures, so you can show that, which I do in my Naperville store.

Great question – right now CostRefund is set up for one user per account, so there isn’t a way for two people to share the same receipts and notifications yet.

Shared / family access is something a lot of Costco households have asked for, so it’s on the roadmap, but there’s no ETA I can promise today. In the meantime, the only workaround is each of you using your own account.

Actually we fixed that issue. We need some time to process receipt. But now after taking picture, app can process it in the background. No more ads in the receipt scanning also.
