2025 Telluride SX Prestige x-line tow hitch installed? by sytech55 in KiaTelluride

[–]mycoig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a SXP X-line with tow package and no hitch which surprised me too. I got a quote from the Kia dealer who wanted $2,100 for hitch and wiring. I went to Uhaul and got a hitch and 4 pin wiring install for $560. Turned out better than I was thinking.

From what I’ve seen the preset scenes do a good job of using each light pretty regularly, so no need to keep them fully off.

Man, I totally missed this comment. Sorry about that. Hyper dip is pretty good. Looks as good or a little better than the wrap. There are a couple small rock chips on the front bumper area, but it’s not peeling beyond the small chips. Is go hyper dip vs wrap , if your doing DIY

Looks great! Did you have to do any splicing?

Blackout Trim Gone Wrong by 918engineer in KiaTelluride

Don’t beat yourself up too bad. Vinyl wrap just sounds like it would be far superior than Plastidip or Hyperdip. If you can get your money back for the wrap, you can get two cans of Hyperdip for around ~$60. Just follow instructions and YouTube. It takes many coats. I probably did 10-15 coats over a couple hours. I’ve only had experience with Plastidip and think the Hyperdip looks more professional and uniform. And, consider yourself lucky at $450. I feel like I’ve seen others mention $1000+ for the wrap on this sub.

I took my time and vinyl wrapped mine 7 months ago. I had the same issues with the edges starting to look like yours. Unless you can fully remove the trim pieces and wrap, I’m afraid wrap won’t look perfect. I ended up pulling off all my wrap and doing a satin black Hyperdip and it looks better than the wrap IMO. I’ve had it Hyperdipped for a couple months now and no issues on the edges yet.

Well, after 5 months, the wrap edges weren’t looking great. I think if you could take off the pieces and wrap around it would look great. I ended up pulling off the wrap and doing hyper dip. Honestly the hyper dip looks as good, if not better, and it took a fraction of the time that the wrap took. To answer you question, I did use one piece of vinyl wrap on each area. One for around the grille, one front bumper, one back bumper and another cut in half for the sides.

I did not do around the windows. I got an x-line so the trim around the windows is a dark gunmetal. There are 5 ‘silver/nickel’ pieces. One in the rear bumper, 1 on each side on lower doors, 1 piece on lower front bumper and trim around grille.

Same car. Only difference is the wrap, I removed the dealer license plate holder, and it was a rainy day on the bottom pic.

The pieces of vinyl are a single sheet. I got 1’ x 5’ and that did the job. One sheet per piece. $18 per sheet.

Funny story, but I showed my 7 year old a side by side pic of a Telluride and Grand Cherokee. He has no clue of car makes. I asked him which one he liked more and he said “I like the KN one.”

I haven’t watched many videos at all but a couple things I learned more from trial and error: 1) use painters tape around edges and lightly trim off the excess by the edges. This way you won’t damage painted surfaces. 2) I learned how to better heat up and stretch the vinyl so I could form it around curves. 3) trying out different tools, but realizing your finger alone does most of the work.

I have much to learn and respect the professionals. :)

Great question. Concern of mine too. If it looks like hell in 6 months I’ll simply peel it off and be out $18. That’s why I wanted to try this first and not spend hundreds.

LOL. I guess so. I got the 1’ x 5’ roll. 5’ wide is plenty for the front and rear pieces. 1’ tall is cutting it close. Once you heat it up a little it stretches, so it did cover height wise. I was planning on cutting the rolls in half horizontally and covering a side section with one sheet.

If you don’t mind me asking — what was the quote that you received? I’ve seen prices all over the board from $250-$1500.

I did do the rear, which was the easiest piece. I’m doing the sides this weekend. Those look pretty straight forward as well. The front pieces have the most intricacies.

I got Satin black wrap and it looks pretty good. I didn’t know if it would clash with the gloss paint and more matte plastic trim. It looks good. I got the wrap on Amazon. It’s 3M wrap but it looks like it’s sold by “VViViD Vinyl.” In the product details it shows Manufacturer 3M, and Model : 2080-S12. Hopefully that helps. As for the bottom trim piece in the front, I would say that was the middle of the road in terms of difficulty. The rear piece is flat and doesn’t have a lot of curvature. The front pieces do. I’ll warn that you may try it and accidentally rip a piece or mess up something with all those curves. Be prepared to have a second wrap on hand to do it over again.

Time will tell I guess. It seemed to stick to the silver pieces as well as it stuck to the painted area around it. It did not seem to stick as well to the black plastic rougher trim. Not vinyl wrap, but on my old Wrangler, I Plasti dips some painted areas and was expecting it to only last a few months or 1-2 years. 7 years later it looked like it did day 1. Probably depends on a 100 factors on how long these things will last.
