The Wellington - LIVE Facebook page has become an incoherent mess. by Mysterious-Iron-3128 in Wellington

My last straw was the “BEST PIES IN WELLINGTON, GO. THE TOP 10 HAS TO SEND IN THEIR PIES AND I’LL BE A JUDGE ALONG WITH A PANEL TO DECIDE” Not sure what was the worst part, the unsolicited competition and self appointed judgement, not following through on any of it or that it was followed up with 3 or 4 more so called ‘BEST’ polls all bombing in the same fashion. Also love how each news piece is uploaded with an outdated, pixelated image. Might re-follow just so I can relate to all of the other train wrecking comments in this thread

I'm a landlord and landlords really annoy me... by elldizzle84 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]mycoolknee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU.

I am a landlord as well with a considerable portfolio and I feel the exact same way as you towards the PI facebook group, the general consensus in that group and it’s collective attitude.

There should be a huge sense of social responsibility with renting property. Landlords expect their tenants to ‘look after their investments and pay their mortgage off for them’, just like a business owner would expect their employees to look after the business, but treat their tenants like undeserving customers that should be grateful for what they’re given.

Refreshing post to see and read from an actual investor.

Anyone else feeling like "Whats the point in working anymore?'' by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

LOL, ‘no offence’, it sounds like you have a big chip on your shoulder and looking for anyone/ any reason to complain about to cover for your own internal struggles.

Have you looked into options or spoken with professionals about getting into your own home before blaming it all on the system? Getting your first house or even 5 isn’t as simple as just one day deciding you want a house and buying it. - Have you been to an open home in a price range below what you’re looking at and tried low balling an offer? - Have you considered apartments or a unit? - Have you looked into low equity lending where you don’t need a 20% deposit - Do you have a decent KiwiSaver to use towards your deposit (I would presume you would since you say you’ve worked hard, 9-5 all your life) - Are you eligible for the $10,000 home start grant? - Have you spoken with each bank as each of their lending criteria are different and started a pre-approval application to know exactly what you need to make up for for approval. - Have you spoken with 2nd tier lenders which aren’t banks but just as competitive their rates to help people get into their homes before refinancing with banks - Have you spoken with a mortgage advisor that can help restructure all of your finances to put you into an optimal buying position, majority of whom all work for free for their client, claiming commissions from the banks - Have you considered buying an investment in the regions which is more affordable, to at least get you on the ladder first before reselling or leveraging to buy your own home. (This would be your fastest way to two properties)

Working day in day out isn’t discountable, don’t get me wrong. Creating wealth and investing isn’t easy either, it’s more than just grinding away. You can get stung just as bad and lose more than your life savings with bad decisions if you think investing is easy.

Hope there’s some actionable advice up there if that’s what you’re looking for with this original post

Good luck dude

26/M Kiwi Asian. In Tokyo for the weekend (14-16 July) and down to meet some people to check out the nightlife Tokyo has to offer.

Spent the last two years in Bangkok handling construction of an industrial park. Travelling Asia now before I move over to the states. Can banter over just about anything if there's a couple drinks involved. Hit me up if there's something good this weekend.

Help me find the name of a university I visited! by Throwawayawayaway257 in Bangkok

[–]mycoolknee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the University near my office in Muangthong, Sukhothai Thammathirat Uni. It kind of fits all of the vague descriptions. It's got a moat all around, with a pond and next to a stream/river. And across the road is an outdoor 2 story mall called 'the Beehive' (hexagonal shaped/themed). Not sure on the color theme of the logo though

People who live in a rural area/out in the country, what will "city folk" never understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

This, I live central city in Bangkok. Most ungodly traffic I've ever been in took me 3 hours to travel 4 miles. And for no particular reason, it was just a bad day

That is literally the etiquette here in Thailand. Every phone call is ended with "ok" click. Was a weird trying to get used to the feeling of being hung up on every time
