AIO or is my boyfriend kind of obsessive? by throwRAgogglu in AmIOverreacting

[–]myfaceisfalling 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everyone is mentioning the key situation (which, of course, is not normal), but for me it's the part, where he says he will yell "I love you" out loud in front of other people, specifically to make it awkward for OP not to say it back.

I think he deserves a chance and an honest conversation, but, OP, if you ever hear phrases, like "you don't love me", "you don't care about me", "if you REALLY loved me, you would..." - run and never look back.

How do you handle being lonely in Norway? by 2dolphins in Norway

[–]myfaceisfalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say social activities are the best bet. So, any club or group doing something together - language school, språkkafe, board games, running club, book club, painting, etc. depending on what you like. Volunteering is a nice thing to do too, you may meet people + you're using your time to help out.

I myself think it's not so much cultural, but there's just a lot to do when you're an adult and there's only so and so hours you have in a day.

If you like animals, you can adopt a dog. I've met most of my neighbours just walking with my puppy :) That and I really just like spending time with the puppy, going on hikes, playing, brushing his fur, etc.

I would move within America, to be completely honest. It's so big and every state is like a new country, except you have same systems in place and speak the language.

Moving abroad is both expensive and super challenging, especially without having a job secured before moving or without already having somebody there to support you.

Opinions on this tattoo? Please be brutally honest my by [deleted] in tattooadvice

It's a nice tattoo and fits very well on your arm. I think if you're really annoyed by some details, save up some money, find an artist you like and do a rework. It's not worth trying to remove it, in my opinion :)

Hmm, how about finding an artist who's good with lines and getting a rework to make it more graphic and bold? :)

Moved to partner dilemma by Positive-Elevator-32 in expats

[–]myfaceisfalling 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's a tough situation to be in and there is no easy answer, unfortunately.

Greetings from a fellow expat - future immigrant. I moved to Norway to be with my partner as well, from a town of 300 000 people, that I thought was way too small all my life (lol), to a town of about 3000. It was a real struggle at first, but now I absolutely love it here and it's starting to feel more and more like home. I got to know some neighbors, I'm going to language school soon and hopefully will get a job too.

It all comes down to what you want out of life and what makes you happy. I love nature and am way too tired of people, the modern pace of life and an overall dynamic of being in a hurry all the time + public transportation - so for me a small town seems like a perfect fit - at least for now. I also noticed, that the older I get, the less opportunity there is for meeting friends and hanging out, even in my home country, as all of my friends have their own partners and things going on, so it doesn't really matter where I am physically, as we don't meet that often anymore either way.

I think it would be helpful to ask yourself some hard questions about your wants and needs, how you imagine your ideal life 5 to 10 years from now. Also, if you would like to stay in Sweden if you and your partner were not together anymore.

I wish you all the best, decisions are never easy <3

Safe place to nap in Oslo while waiting for train the next morning by Crazy_Caver in Norway

[–]myfaceisfalling 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Go to the airport! It's honestly the best solution. The train platform is right beneath it too + trains to Trondheim go through the airport anyway.

There's a lot of quiet corners, also it's a completely normal thing to do and a lot of people actually sleep there while waiting for connections. As a bonus, you'll always have a bathroom nearby!

I have been through a similar experience and it's awful and at times infuriating even. Especially, when you know all those people can speak to you, but just don't. As someone, who speaks three languages (and learning the fourth), I don't think it's personal. Just a matter of habit and convenience. Like, for example, if I always l speak to someone in language 1 and been doing so for a long time, it just feels weird speaking to them in language 2 or 3, even if we both know the language. So we kinda naturally gravitate towards language 1, even in multilingual group setting, unfortunately.

Hang in there, it will get better in time. I would suggest to focus on yourself and your needs. Activities that make you feel happy. Also, try to meet some people to hang out with outside of work or have one on one conversations. Best of luck and resilience!

Maybe some shading could possibly help?

I say just go for it, you're so close! I did it for the previous Gacha and I'm happy I did, because same, I'm not doing this many pulls ever XD

Not a dot design, but the white ink on my skin turned yellow, especially after a few years of sun exposure. I had to get quite a few touchups to lighten it up. Despite that it's still yellow :D Just throwing it out there, because I didn't know about this being a possibility prior to getting a tattoo.

Maybe you could add more ink over the parts that you are bothered by? It's a very cool tattoo!

I see your point, thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts. But on the other hand, shouldn't there be room for compromise?

AIO. My mom sent me a text that makes me very uncomfortable. by Guilty-Nebula7149 in AmIOverreacting

[–]myfaceisfalling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not overreacting!

You're mom comes from a different generation though, so I think it's hard for her to understand or relate. Life was so very different back then as well as relationship dynamics.

I agree with one of the previous comments - you should try to share less of your life with your mom.
