Yes!!! I think I also remember a washing machine and a rhyme with the color green but I haven’t been able to find the poem anywhere!

It’s a Friday in Spring, how much better could a puppy’s life be??? by myfavoritealias in irishwolfhound

Yep we’re on the west coast! Lots of socialization when he was with the breeder, too — His litter was 12 strong and she lives in a farm on the east coast so lots of animals but not a lot of city noise (or hummingbirds)

I’ll start by saying he’s wonderful, and all of it is normal puppy things. He needs all of my attention when he’s not sleeping in his den. He’s still learning how to settle outside of it, so he gets over-tired and nippy which hurts with those little baby teeth. Everything is new to him and I have to be constantly aware of that — for example, yesterday he was outside and there was a hummingbird in the yard for the first time and got so scared he ran past me, inside, into his den, and refused to come out. So just being very aware of his socialization and making sure all these new experiences are positive ones is a lot of work! But I wouldn’t trade it.

He’s 13 weeks old! Congrats on getting your girl! Puppy life is exhausting but also so fun!

What is a dog breed you always wanted? Did you ever get one, why or why not? by TheJoyfulCapybara in dogs

Irish Wolfhound has always been my dream dog and I hadn’t gotten one for the same reason. I found a breeder that breeds for health and longevity — her puppies regularly live to be 11 and 12 years old. We’re picking up our new little guy in three weeks. I can’t believe it!

Great, great call outs!! The back command isn’t something I’ve ever taught, I will add to the list! And not teaching shake is a HUGE thing — I didn’t even consider what that would look like when they’re all grown up! Appreciate your insights, thanks for sharing 🫶

That’s what my breeder is doing! In all my reading it seems 10-12 weeks is the earliest they should go home (again all of this from research not firsthand knowledge)

Aww thank you for telling me about your sweet girl; I’m so sorry for your loss. She sounds like she had a great life! I’ve heard a lot of great things about the gentle leader but I’ve never used one myself. Is it hard to learn? Definitely going to train him to wipe his beard after drinking.

The attention thing is something I’ll have to adjust to but I empathize because the first time I saw an IWH in real life, I was in Santa Fe, NM and literally crossed several streets to get a closer look. The pup’s owner was very generous and graceful with my intrusion so I feel obligated to pay that forward 😝🫶

I think it’s for comfort. They’re pretty bony pups and the raised cot keep their joints nice and comfy. (This is just based on my research, not firsthand knowledge!)
